🖍️ Tools For Success

  • Paper (Our Free How To Draw Template PDF)
  • Pencil
  • Polymer Eraser
  • Coloring Tools (I recommend Crayola’s 140 Piece Coloring Case)

🎨 Parents: The only tools you need to use these how-to-draw tutorials are: an eraser, a pencil, and a piece of paper. But – if you have them around – a sketching pencil makes for fainter and softer lines that help kids build fine motor accuracy. I also recommend going over the sketch pencil with a black outline marker when you’re done for a neater finish. Lastly, erase the pencil marks before adding color.

You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below

Step 1

Start by drawing a long, curved line like an inverted letter “L.” This line forms one of the rock faces from which your waterfall flows.

Step 2

Draw a short, curve extending from the top of the rock face. Then, from this line, draw a long and curved line. You just outlined the water flowing through your waterfall.

Step 3

Add detail and texture of the water flowing into the waterfall. Draw long and short curves of different sizes along the length of the waterfall. At the bottom of the waterfall, draw some wavy, circular lines. These lines represent the turbulence that occurs when fast-flowing water meets rocks at the bottom of the falls.

Step 4

Draw some rocks at the bottom of the waterfall. For each rock, use a curve around an irregular shape.

Step 5

Delete instruction lines if necessary.

Step 6

The maple tree grows in wet areas at the bottom of the waterfall. Draw them! First, use a series of small, connected “U”-shaped lines to outline the shrub. Notice that the outline of the shrub is not only round, but also wavy and wavy. Then vignetting the bush by drawing a series of curved, connected “U”-shaped lines inside it.

Step 7

Draw the rock surface on the opposite side of the waterfall using several long, connected curves.

Step 8

Draw more water jets and ripples at the bottom of the waterfall. Draw a wavy line to represent the turbulence at the bottom, and draw more wavy lines around the circles drawn in the previous steps. Surrounded by a number of water droplets, representing water splashes from the falls.

Step 9

Add the final details to your landscape. Draw a long curve at the top of the waterfall and add drop shapes along the length of the waterfall. Draw rippling, jagged lines along the rock surface to create a coarse texture.

Drawingforall.net has been around for many years, and our readers from time to time ask us to show how to draw a waterfall. We have long thought how to make this instruction more detailed and understandable for anyone who wants to learn how to draw a waterfall. And eventually we created this super simple drawing guide, in which with the help of five very simple steps we will show how to draw a waterfall easy and fast.

Step 1

Let’s begin depicting a waterfall with two simple lines. First, sketch a straight horizon line at the lower part. After that depict a rough and uneven line of the upper part of the waterfall, as the artists of Drawingforall.net showed in the example below.

How to draw a waterfall

Step 2

Now let’s draw the most integral part of the waterfall – the falling water itself. This should be done with a few light vertical lines. These lines should not be too straight and sharp.

How to draw a waterfall

Step 3

At the lower part of the waterfall, right above the horizon line, draw a cloud of water with a large number of wavy lines. Now add a large number of slightly curved vertical lines of the waterfall.

How to draw a waterfall

Step 4

Let’s now make our drawing of a waterfall more voluminous and realistic. At the upper and lower parts of the waterfall, draw a large number of light lines, creating a glare of water. Next, in the top and bottom, depict the texture of the stones.

How to draw a waterfall

Step 5

Let’s continue to make our waterfall drawing more voluminous and realistic. To do this, add shadows, as shown in our example. Next, draw a coastline and a lot of light vertical lines on the surface of the water.

How to draw a waterfall

But before we start, let me tell you something interesting. In general, every waterfall is quite a sight! I will tell you about the highest of them. Who knows perhaps one day this information will be useful for you.

  • Angel Falls is the waterfall in Venezuela. It is the highest waterfall in the world with the height of 979 m. it was named after Jimmy Angel, a US aviator who was the first to fly over the falls in a plane.
  • Tugela Falls is the world’s second highest waterfall in South Africa. Its height is 948 m.
  • Three Sisters Falls is the waterfall in San Diego. Do you know why it is called three sisters? Because it’s a triple set of waterfalls and its height is 914 m.
  • The highest waterfall in Europe is Zeigalan. Its height is 600 m.
  • Talnikovy waterfall is in Russia, Siberia and its height is 483 m.

We can go on and on with naming these wonders of our world. There are many beautiful waterfalls such as Niagara, Victoria, Utigord and many others. Most of all I like Niagara Falls and I have always dreamt to live somewhere near it. Perhaps one day it will come true. There is no harm in dreaming.

But let us draw.

How to draw a waterfall step by step

Step 1. We sketch the contours of the mountain and the land. On the top we show the trees. Then we mark the stones in water and show the direction of the flow.

How to draw a waterfall

Step 2. The waterfall conceals the mountains. But we can still see big boulders behind the water. We add some stones downstairs and two thresholds of our waterfall.

How to draw a waterfall

Step 3. We show the branches on the trees. We give necessary shape to the boulders, the mountain and the stones. We show the direction of a powerful stream of the waterfall. And down we see the foam.

How to draw a waterfall

Step 4. Now we need to do shading. We do hatching with short lines. We can now better see the mountain, stones and the water. There is a grove in the background. Our landscape is ready.

Learn how to draw a waterfall made from refreshing colors and simple elements. In this drawing lesson, I will show you how to draw a picturesque image featuring a large waterfall made from great special effects. You will need a vector application and some basic knowledge of this software to duplicate this cartoon image.

How to draw a waterfall

Illustrations from this site (like the one above) can be yours now! Learn how

Step 1

First, you can draw the elements from the drawing using basic shapes without any outlines. These shapes must be filled with plain colors for now. As you can see, this illustration is pretty basic. Let’s add some effects to make this image more spectacular!

How to draw a waterfall

Step 2

How to draw a waterfall

Start by using the gradient fill tool to add volume to these shapes. Inside each element of the drawing, add a second color (usually a darker version of the color already used inside the shape) to create the illusion of depth.

How to draw a waterfall

Step 3

Next, draw new shapes on the mountain like shown in the illustration below (with the pink outlines). Shapes on top must be brighter while the ones on the bottom must be darker. The pink outlines were only added for readability purposes so you don’t need to draw them.

How to draw a waterfall

Step 4

Continue working on your illustration by adding two large clouds made from curved lines. On top of the waterfall, draw some waves using a shape filled with a bright blue color. Repeat the same technique on the bottom with darker colors. Finally, add darker irregular shapes on both sides of the mountain.

How to draw a waterfall

Step 5

On the trees on top of the picture, draw dark shapes on the bottom. Inside the waterfall, draw more waves made from bright blue shapes. On the bottom of the illustration, create a large oval shape made from curved lines. You can also blur this shape to create a more realistic effect.

How to draw a waterfall

Step 6

On both sides of the mountain, draw more darker shapes to create patterns and textures. You can use transparency to partially hide these new elements. Next, draw more waves on the bottom of the image. You can also draw a large version of the oval shape created on the bottom of the waterfall. You can blur this one too.

How to draw a waterfall

Step 7

On both sides of the mountain, draw brighter shapes like shown below. You can also add a white shape on the bottom of the waterfall and blur this one. On both sides on the mountain (near the bottom), create two white shapes to complete this illustration.
