How to edit the legend on google sheets on android

When a chart has a legend displayed, you can modify the individual legend entries by editing the corresponding data on the worksheet. For additional editing options, or to modify legend entries without affecting the worksheet data, you can make changes to the legend entries in the Select Data Source dialog box.

What do you want to do?

Edit legend entries on the worksheet

On the worksheet, click the cell that contains the name of the data series that appears as an entry in the chart legend.

Type the new name, and then press ENTER.

The new name automatically appears in the legend on the chart.

Edit legend entries in the Select Data Source dialog box

Click the chart that displays the legend entries that you want to edit.

This displays the Chart Tools, adding the Design, Layout, and Format tabs.

On the Design tab, in the Data group, click Select Data.

In the Select Data Source dialog box, in the Legend Entries (Series) box, select the legend entry that you want to change.

Tip: To add a new legend entry, click Add, or to remove a legend entry, click Remove.

In the Series Name box, do one of the following:

Type the reference to the worksheet cell that contains the data that you want to use as the legend entry text.

Tip: You can also click the Collapse Dialog button at the right end of the Series name box, and then select the worksheet cell that contains the data that you want to use as the legend entry. When you finish, click the Collapse Dialog button again to display the entire dialog box.

Type the legend entry name that you want to use.

Note: When you type a new name, the legend entry text is no longer linked to data in a worksheet cell.

To add a new legend entry, type the reference to the worksheet cell or type a new name and then, in the Series values box, type a reference to the data series on the worksheet that you want to use for the new legend entry.

Tip: You can also click the Collapse Dialog button at the right end of the Series values box, and then select the data series that you want to use for the new legend entry. When you finish, click the Collapse Dialog button again to display the entire dialog box.

However, you should note that the changing color of the legend also impacts the color of your graph’s columns. This is because legends take up colors depending on the graph automatically.

But if you must change the color, follow these simple steps

1 . Double click on the column and it will activate the series. (Double click on the line if you are working on a line graph)

2 . Choose the item that you want in the series

3 . Change the color by clicking on the color drop-down box

How to edit the legend on google sheets on android

In my previous article, I have used the pieHole option to create a Donut chart. Its just a pie chart with a hole in the center. The default text that is displayed on the chart is percentage . Look at the figure below.

How to edit the legend on google sheets on android

However, to show the value along with percentage on the Pie chart, you can use an option called pieSliceText and set the value as value-and-percentage . This is a combination of two values. See here.

See the options variable in the script and see how I have used pieSliceText option. I have an array of data, for month and “sales figures” (in numbers). When you load the page without using the pieSliceText option, it will show the percentage (of total values) on each slice. This is its default behavior.

Note: If you are using dynamic data for your Google charts, you’ll have to define this option.

Configuration Option pieSliceText

The configuration option pieSliceText is used to define the content of the text displayed on the slice . You can define it using four values.

• ‘percentage’: Shows the percentage of the slice size. For example,

• ‘value’: Shows values in each slice. For example, pieSliceText: ‘value’

• ‘label’: The name of each slice. The name of label is also shown at right side of the chart. See the first image above.

• ‘none’: Use this option to hide texts on the slices. Show nothing if you wish.

• ‘value-and-percentage’: Finally, you can use this option to show both percentage and value on each slice. Like I have used in my example above.

I am using Google Visualisation to create line charts for my application. I have following requirements in that :

  1. Manipulating events on legends (like doubleClick, which I have solved somehow)
  2. Wrapping the legends in two rows avoiding pagination (Most imp and required)

I have gone through the following questions to get solution for my answers: 1) Issue with legend pagination (Google Interactive chart API) Issue : I would avoid playing with font-size because the number of legends may increase over time

2)How the legends on Google charts can be wrapped Issue: I do not want legends to be anywhere else than at the position:bottom. And maxLines solution does not work on position : bottom

4) Google Documentation : Heading : Chart Legend Text and Style chdl, chdlp, chdls [All charts] https://developers.google.com/chart/image/docs/chart_params#axis-label-styles-chxs Heading : Setting Chart Margines https://developers.google.com/chart/image/docs/chart_params#chart-margins-chma-all—-charts Heading : Tooltips https://developers.google.com/chart/interactive/docs/customizing_tooltip_content#tooltips-an-introduction Comment : These are few google documentation links where few legend manipulating properties are mentioned, but still they does not solve my problem.

5)https://github.com/google/google-visualization-issues/issues/1286 Comment : This is the link where I can see that, google has not provided many properties to manipulate legends, and no much useful information to solve my issue

6) Google charts legend manipulation Comment : This is the only link, where I got a hint about how to solve my issue i.e. writing own legends. But there is no more links provided for documentation, no jsFiddle or no ref links apart from one link which is not useful for me.

While gone through all these, I can see only solution to solve my problem is to write my own custom legends. But I have no idea about how to write a complete element adding to google API.

Please guide me to go through this, any suggestions/links/refs/hints are welcome.
