Learning how to shave your underarms correctly can reduce chances of razor burn, ingrown hairs and skin irritation. So here are straightforward tips for how to shave armpit hair.

Don’t use a dull razor

Shaving with a dull razor blade increases the likelihood of razor burn and skin irritation. If you start to feel your blade pull at your body hair or feel rough on your skin, replace it.

Hydrate your skin before you shave

It may be tempting to dry shave your armpits given how small the area is. But keep in mind the skin under your arms is sensitive, so it’s important to protect it while shaving.

Soak your underarms in warm water in a shower or bath for around three minutes to soften your skin and make the hair thick with water. This helps the hair cut more easily.

How to wash armpit hair

Wash your underarms

Taking a bath or shower before you shave can ensure your armpits are clear of sweat and deodorant which can clog razor blades.

Washing helps the razor more effectively shave off body hair; it also helps prevent bacteria from the combination of sweat and deodorant from penetrating through the skin if nicked while shaving.

Use shaving gel

Although the surface area is tiny and only takes a few strokes of a razor to shave, remember underarms are sensitive. Use shaving gel to maintain moisture and help the razor glide more easily over your skin, to better safeguard from irritation.

How to wash armpit hair

Shave your armpits in all directions

The hair under our arms grows in all directions, so shaving in one direction might not result in a close shave. For best results, lift your arm above your head, press gently down on the razor and shave lightly in short strokes in all directions — downward, sideways and back upward, if needed.

Be sure to moisturize

Once you’re finished shaving, rinse and gently pat your armpits dry with a clean towel. Apply moisturizer or oil, preferably one that’s alcohol-free. Although it may sound counterintuitive to moisturize this area, it will help keep your skin hydrated and reduce the chances of developing razor burn and bumps.

Stinky armpits. We’ve all been there. The scent can hit you after a grueling workout or in the middle of a nerve-wracking presentation. For some lucky people, a couple of swipes of deodorant are enough to cover the evidence.

But sometimes, no matter how much you shower, douse yourself in perfume or slather on deodorant, the underarm odor just won’t let up.

It’s hard to exude confidence when you always keep your arms down to hold back the stink. But we’re here to help! In this article, we’ll cover all the best ways to get rid of armpit odor.

What Causes Armpit Odor?

Contrary to popular belief, sweat by itself doesn’t smell. Armpit odor occurs when your sweat interacts with the bacteria on your skin, producing that unmistakable armpit smell — also known as B.O.

The medical term for chronic, excessive armpit odor is bromhidrosis. Body odor is sometimes the result of a medical condition that should be addressed by a doctor — but for many people, simple lifestyle changes and home remedies can help cure smelly pits.

Other causes of body and armpit odor include poor diet, gut health issues or digestion problems. For example, eating spicy and sulfurous foods may cause a nasty odor to emit through your pores. Bad B.O. can also signal an enzyme deficiency.

How to Get Rid of Armpit Odor

Here are the best and easiest methods for getting rid of armpit odor fast.

How to wash armpit hair

1. Try Home Remedies for Underarm Odor

These versatile home remedies for armpit odor can help combat armpit smell without breaking the bank – and you can find most of them in your kitchen or local grocery store.

Apply Witch Hazel to Your Armpits with a Cotton Ball after Showering

Witch hazel is a natural astringent, which means it contracts your skin’s tissues and reduces the production of sweat. Most commercial witch hazel extracts also include rubbing alcohol, which helps fight odor-causing bacteria that like to hang out in your armpits.

Fight back against armpit odor by dousing a cotton ball with witch hazel and rubbing it on your underarms after showering or bathing for an easy-to-apply home remedy for body odor.

Dab Apple Cider Vinegar on Your Underarms Twice a Day

Apple cider vinegar is naturally acidic and has antimicrobial properties. You can find this home remedy for armpit odor in the grocery store. It neutralizes the environment in your underarm area and destroys smelly bacteria. Using apple cider vinegar regularly can help prevent bacteria from accumulating in your armpits.

Dip a cotton ball in a small bowl of apple cider vinegar and apply it to your underarms twice a day.

Rub a Mixture of Lemon Juice and Water on Your Pits Once a Day

Lemon juice is another highly acidic ingredient that doubles as a home remedy for body odor. It reduces the pH of your skin and makes it uninhabitable for bacteria.

Take half a lemon and rub it directly on your armpits. Repeat once daily until you notice an improvement in your armpit odor. If you have sensitive skin, mix the juice of half a lemon with half a cup of water to dilute it.

Pro-tip: Be careful when applying strong acidic home remedies like lemon juice, apple cider vinegar and witch hazel, especially if you have sensitive skin. To avoid any burning or irritation, only apply to clean, dry skin. Never use them right after shaving or if you have any nicks or broken skin.

Wear Homemade or Natural Deodorant

Natural deodorant is a gentle, healthy home remedy for armpit odor. It’s a great alternative to standard deodorant options that contain potentially harmful chemicals.

Most natural deodorants are gentle on the skin and free of aluminum, parabens and phthalates. If regular deodorant makes your skin itch or burn, the natural deodorant route might be your best bet for fighting armpit odor.

2. Make a Diet Change

Did you know that certain foods can intensify armpit odor? If you’re prone to bad B.O., try laying off these foods for a few days.

Cruciferous Vegetables

Broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower contain sulfur, which your body absorbs and secretes through your sweat. Eating these veggies can impact your underarm odor for one to six hours.

Red Meat

Meat is harder to digest than other foods, so your body has to work harder to process it. The amino acids in red meat leave a residue in your intestines. Your intestinal enzymes break down the residue during digestion, which mixes with bacteria on your skin and intensifies your body odor.

Fish

Fish like tuna and salmon contain choline, a type of B-vitamin that produces a pungent fishy smell. Some people who eat fish can secrete choline in their sweat for up to a day.

People who experience armpit odor after eating seafood may have a metabolic disorder called trimethylaminuria. Underarm odor may develop a fishy smell due to the body’s inability to break down the chemical trimethylamine that’s naturally found in seafood. The odor will appear within a few hours and can last up to a day.

3. Change Your Personal Hygiene Routine

It might be time to take a good, hard look at your personal care routine. Practicing good hygiene habits can help reduce the amount of bacteria in your armpits.

Wash Your Clothes Regularly

Do you have a bad habit of re-wearing sweaty workout clothes between washes? Letting sweat sit on your shirts creates a breeding ground for sweat-causing bacteria. Wear a fresh shirt every time you go out or exercise, and wash your clothes immediately after a heavy sweat session.

Trim or Shave Your Pits

Underarm hair traps moisture and creates the perfect environment for bacteria to breed. Shave or trim your pits frequently to keep the armpit odor under control.

Shower More Frequently

Infrequent showering can cause bacteria to build up on your skin. Shower at least once a day (or every morning and night) and scrub your extra-sweaty areas with a scent-free, antibacterial bath soap. Stay away from strongly scented soaps, which can make your armpits smell worse.

If you exercise often, make sure to shower right after every workout so bacteria don’t have a chance to spread.

Wash With Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide, a common ingredient in acne washes, doubles as a B.O. killer. Try using it to wash your pits, but do it before shaving so your skin doesn’t sting.

4. Wear an Anti-Odor Undershirt

What’s the best way to guarantee your friends, family and colleagues never know you’re battling armpit odor? Wear the Thompson Tee anti odor undershirt!

How to wash armpit hair

Keeping your body clean is a good step in being healthy. From the tip of your head to the toes on your feet, you should always make sure that you take proper care of your body. Some parts of the body are relatively easy to care for than others. One of the toughest areas to keep clean is the armpits. The armpits require more than just regular washing, although that is quite essential. But washing the armpits alone would not stop them from being dirty and smelly, and this could make you very self-conscious

So today, we would be looking at some ways to keep your armpits clean.

How to wash armpit hair

1. Shave Your Armpit Hair

Puberty left you with some unnecessary features, such as hair in your armpits. Armpit hair serves as one of the major factors that keep it dirty because it traps sweat, which causes the armpit to smell.

To get rid of the hair, use a shaving stick and gently scrape the hair under your arms. You may need to do this every 2 weeks or every month, depending on how fast your hair grows. But you should make sure that the hair does not grow to a reasonable length. Shaving your armpit hair would help you get rid of the smell and also reduce the way you sweat in that area.

2. Use Deodorant

Make it a rule to never step out of the house without using deodorant. A deodorant would help keep your armpits dry and prevent them from sweating. It also has fragrance, so this would add to your body musk. Using deodorant would make you feel fresh as you go about your day without you breaking a sweat, literally. Deodorant comes in spray or roll-on options and you will find the one that suits you best.

3. Let Your Armpits Breath

Another tip in keeping your armpits clean is to air them out. This you can do by wearing sleeveless or loose-fitting clothes that would not be tight around the armpit area. Some people are always dressed in tight clothes for most of the day, giving their armpit very little chance of getting air. Staying in tight clothes would also make you sweat more, causing your armpit to smell. That is why you should wear shirts that allow your armpit to breathe.

4. Wash Your Armpits Regularly

Just like your face and other parts of your body, you should endeavour to wash your armpits every day. When having your bath in the morning and evening, make sure you wash your armpits then. If you go for a run or engage in some other physical activity, make sure to wash your armpits when you return. Washing your armpits would keep it fresh as you wash away the sweat that has dried in that region.

5. Stay Healthy

Living a healthy life would help keep your armpits clean. Make sure you drink water regularly. Eat your fruits and vegetables. Cut down on your habits, such as smoking cigarettes. Numerous research have linked eating healthy to reducing body odor.

How to wash armpit hair

As a K-Pop idol, taking care of oneself and managing hygiene probably requires different methods from that of an average person.

Idols are known to take care of themselves from head to toe so well, as it is actually part of the job requirement. And that means, clean armpits. Yes, while one might assume that armpits aren’t exactly that important, idols are known to take good care of even this particular body part quite thoroughly, so much that they require a certain method from professionals to keep them in the best shape.

A beauty expert who has worked with many K-Pop idols have revealed a few things about how idols take care of their armpits.

So the first thing is, getting rid of unwanted hair.

While the most obvious way to do this is to just shave it off, for idols such isn’t the case. And the reason why is because it can damage the skin over time and cause irritation. Doesn’t sound too pleasant right?

So a good solution for this is to use lasers and waxing. Waxing causes the hair to regrow at a much slower rate, and extra care is also needed to avoid infection and irritation. Experts have revealed that it takes about up to 5 to 10 times for it to be effective over a course of 4 to 6 weeks.

If you’ve noticed how transparent idols’ armpits are, much like their face skin, it’s actually also due to a special treatment they get. Crazy how even their armpits are just as clean and transparent as their face right? To get this particular effect, experts revealed that idols actually use lasers that are meant to minimize facial pores.

But it doesn’t stop just here. The fun has only begun.

How to wash armpit hair

What are some additional care that idols get on their armpits? Botox!

Botox, botox, botox. It truly has many uses. Botox for the armpits is actually to prevent too much sweat. And if you thought botox on the armpits was weird, get this.

There’s also a makeup process involved as well.

There are concealers and foundations that idols use specifically for their armpits. Of course, the names of cosmetic brands have not been revealed, but experts have revealed that they are concealers and foundations used for the face in shades of pink.

So there you have it folks. The secret to K-Pop idols’ always maintaining clean armpits.

Back in December, we posted about dyed underarm hair here on Lipstick.com. Since then, thanks to trendsetters like Miley Cyrus and blogger Roxie Hunt of the "Free Your Pits Movement," brightly colored armpits have gone mainstream. The New York Times even reported that "pit-ins" (groups of women going to a salon to get their armpit hair dyed) are a thing in Seattle and Pensacola, Florida. We're all for self-expression, but we'll admit we have questions. So writer Kelly Dougher volunteered to do a test run and report back.

How do you actually dye underarm hair?

*It's easy, but it takes time. First, I bleached the hair (no skin irritation, but it did make my self-tanner fade), which takes about 30 minutes. Once the hair turned a pale yellow, I colored it with Manic Panic Hot Hot Pink, and I let that sit for another 30 minutes. I did both arms at the same time and didn't want to get bleach and pink dye everywhere, so I ended up sitting in front of the TV with my arms crossed behind my head for about an hour total. (My arms! So tired!) I would definitely do it again—only next time I'll try using a mascara wand to apply the dye for precision. This way I'd be able to get each hair without dyeing my skin. *

How long does it take to grow out your underarm hair?

It took me about two weeks to grow it long enough to color—that is, long enough that there was some curl to the hair. My hair grows pretty fast, which is a bummer because it took less than a week for dark roots to show under the pink. Ombré armpit hair is not the look I was going for.

Were they itchy?

Smelly?

There was a little funk on the first day after dyeing because I skipped deodorant to give my poor skin a break from all the chemicals. But otherwise, as long as you shower and wear deodorant as usual, there's no reason why you would smell more you would with regular armpit hair (at least, that was my experience).

Speaking of deodorant, what was that situation like?

I applied my usual (Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Deodorant) directly over the hair, and I'm happy to report that there were no problems. My deodorant stick stayed white, my armpit hair stayed pink—wins all around.

Any special upkeep?

I did my normal thing—wash my underarms with body wash in the shower. The hair air-dried really fast too. I haven't had the hair long enough to consider trimming it, but I don't see it being much of an issue. Maybe if the length got out of hand after a few months I would trim.

Does the color run when you sweat?

For the first 36 hours, yes. But after that the color stayed put. The Manic Panic color I used tends to wash out fairly easily (although I haven't noticed the color fading one bit yet). When you rinse the dye the first time, the shower water will run pink and your underarm skin might still be pretty pink. After that first shower, however, the dye stuck steadfastly to my hair. I chose pink because I've always wanted pink hair but couldn't commit to such a bold look, so having it under my arms is like a fun secret. Plus if anyone tries to say that hairy armpits aren't feminine I like to insist, "But they're pink!"

Did they stain your clothes?

No, but I wear a lot of black. Surprisingly, once I rinsed the dye off in the shower, the color didn't even transfer to my white towel. You just have to be careful during the actual dyeing process, which is when things can get messy.

How did your friends and family react?

My teen sister and her friends loved it, and my Instagram followers (mostly young women) were into it too. But my mom and boyfriend hated it—upon first sight, my boyfriend said, "Oh, that's… fun," and later admitted that he didn't like it at all. Although to his credit, when I asked if he would be annoyed if I kept it, he was basically like, "Hey, your armpits, your choice." My dad was just bemused. Only one guy asked if it "feels gross." I said, "No, it feels awesome!"

So what's your verdict: Do or Don't?

I actually love having pink armpit hair way more than I thought I would, but I'm too lazy to keep dyeing it, so I'll probably go back to shaving eventually. The vibrant pink doesn't seem to be fading any time soon, but dark roots showed up in less than a week so I think I will give up and shave soon. Dyeing your underarm hair is definitely a fun way for women to express control over their body hair choices. I think it's a 100 percent Do in any color!

How to wash armpit hair

A lot of people don’t talk about this feminine female part that draws men towards women in a very strong way. You might have noticed that a lot of celebrities and models tend to show off their underarms in a very open and sexual way. Why? Because it’s actually the strongest tool that drives men crazy! Men usually don't accept this fact but it’s true. Underarms are actually the second most attractive feature on a female body after breasts maybe number one among some men.

Traditionally u n derarms were not exposed but now the trend has changed and many revealing women try to expose as much as possible of their smooth (cleanly waxed) underarms. When a woman keeps her hand down, as usual, the arm joint shows a cleavage like a line which looks attractive for men and men are tempted to see what is behind that line. When they see the pit in the arm (when the woman raises her hand up), men get aroused.

Listed below are 4 basic points which describe why men are attracted to women’s armpits.

1. Female armpits are actually loaded with pheromones.

These pheromones are actually the key which attracts guys towards female underarms. If you don’t know what pheromone is,

“Pheromones are similar to hormones but work outside of the body. They induce activity in other individuals, such as sexual arousal and encourages them to mate with them or perform some other function closely related to sexual reproduction.”

These pheromones are actually nature's sexual attractant. In fact, that’s why we grow hair there to further distribute those pheromones. So, no wonder why men are aroused by the sight of a naked female armpit! Its nature’s natural phenomenon.

2. Opposite attracts.

You might have heard this phrase quite often and its most definitely one of the truest phases out there. Men are considered as hard, bold, strong and rigid in body and in personality while women are thought to be delicate, soft, timid and smooth in body and personality. Women’s underarms are one of the most tender and delicate places of her body and when men see that tenderness they become sexually aroused because it’s the complete opposite to their own.

3. Oestradiol smells.

In an experiment, 57 men were asked to smell the armpits 28 women in order to find out how attractive men find women’s body odour. The experiment demonstrated that there is a consensus among men about what they find most attractive in a female armpit and that the key ingredient appears to be the smells associated with oestradiol, which peak when women are ovulating.

Having high oestradiol levels is one of the desirable traits that men may seek in a woman since oestradiol is positively related to a woman’s reproductive potential. That is another reason why men are so aroused by the feeling, smelling and the touching of female armpits.

4. Armpit Fetishism

It is actually a common fetish which makes a person extremely attracted to armpits. This fetish was mostly found in men. Men who had even a mild of this armpit fetish enjoyed kissing, tasting, tickling and smelling their partner’s armpits during sexual foreplay, perhaps asking partners not to shower or wash their armpits nor wear deodorant for a period of hours.

So, we can say that armpits are naturally sensual and a guy can easily get fetish on armpits. It is really sexy and at times arouses the girl as well not just the guy. When raising the sexy and milky arms and looking at the gorgeous armpit, it can be great turn on. Slowly kissing and licking is a common foreplay act that many couples like and all these small attractions and fetishism can lead to extreme orgasms. It's a magnetic force which pulls men in for the long run…
