How to change who can see your profile photo on whatsapp

WhatsApp is one of the most popular communication apps. In the beginning, people used it to send messages and make quick calls. Today, there are various ways to stay in touch with your friends and family through WhatsApp. You can send them photos, videos, voice messages, etc.

How to change who can see your profile photo on whatsapp

When it comes to profile picture on WhatsApp, there are two groups of people. The first group contains people who like to change their profile picture often. The other group hasn’t changed their profile picture for years.

How to Change Profile Picture?

  4. Now you’ve entered the section ‘Edit Profile.’ You should tap on your photo one more time.
  5. Then, tap on the Edit button in the top right corner.
  6. You will get three options: to delete the photo, to take one, or to choose from your Gallery/Camera Roll. Choose one.

If you already know which photo you would like to use as your profile photo, select the option Choose photo and then choose the desired image from your gallery. You can move and scale the picture and decide how you would like your contacts to see it.

If you are feeling pretty, choose the Take photo option and make a selfie. Of course, if you don’t like it, you don’t have to save it. You can take another photo or pick one from your gallery.

Can I Hide My Profile Picture?

It’s possible to hide your profile picture from people who are not in your contacts. We suggest you do this as it will improve your online safety. However, it’s not possible to hide your profile picture only from specific contacts.

If you have an inappropriate photo and you don’t want your mum to see it, there are only two things you can do. Hide the profile picture from everyone so only you can see it (but what’s the point then?), or remove your mum from your contacts list (and hope that she doesn’t notice).

Here’s how to limit who will see your photo:

  1. Go to the Settings.
  2. Tap on Account.
  3. Tap on Privacy.
  4. Click on Profile Photo.
  5. You’ll get to choose from three options: Everyone, My Contacts, and Nobody.

Unfortunately, you can’t select ‘Hide from’ and then type the names of some contacts who you don’t want to see your photo. We suggest you opt for the option My Contacts and allow only people who you are connected with to see your profile picture. You never know who can get your phone number, and you should protect your profile and yourself from strangers.

Can I Have Multiple Profile Pictures?

It’s one of the questions that people often ask. And it perfectly makes sense because it’d be nice to have multiple profile pictures. It’d be great to set one profile picture for your friends (where you are relaxed and casual) and the other for your colleagues (professional photo). Unfortunately, that’s not possible.

We don’t exclude the possibility that WhatsApp will allow this feature soon as many users have been asking for it. It would be entertaining to have that option.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I assign profile pictures for my contacts?

One of the more fun aspects of adding contacts is the option to assign photos to them. Older versions of WhatsApp did allow you to add other people’s photos if they didn’t add one. Unfortunately, these daysWhatsApp doesn’t give us that option. Only the contacts’ themselves can add their profile pictures.

Can I hide my profile picture from only one person?

The only way to hide your profile picture from only one person is to block them. To do this you need to navigate to the contact in WhatsApp, scroll all the way down to their profile page and tap on ‘Block.’

Once you do this, you’ll no longer see the contact and they will no longer see you.

A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words

When choosing your new profile picture, think about what you want that picture to say about you. Do you want to appear professional, or you’d like to show how casual and easy-going you are?

WhatsApp is undoubtedly one of the biggest messaging services in the world right now and the company isn’t done yet. They are continuously adding new features to the application to make it more effective.

4 Simple Steps to Set Your WhatsApp DP

Step 1: Download an App Called ‘SquareDroid’

In the first step, you need to download an application called SquareDroid, which is available to download for free from Google Play Store.

Step 2: Open the Downloaded Application

Now, open the downloaded application and pick an image to edit.

Step 3: Choose the Background Type You Need!

Opening a photo will ask you to choose between three background types and choose the one you need. You can choose between blue, plain, and gradient to edit the background.

Size of Whatsapp DP

I did an experiment and uploaded a rectangle-shaped picture of mine. Naturally, WhatsApp asked me to crop it and showed the ‘cropper’. I extended the lines to the maximum capacity and checked the new cropped image.

When I managed to check out the dimension of the cropped profile picture that was being shown, I found it to be 290 Pixels in height and 290 Pixels in Width.

Next time, I took a picture of the exact dimension- 290*290 Pixels and uploaded it to make it the DP. Bingo, the cropper just managed to contain the whole image!

But remember that to use an entire image as the DP, it doesn’t necessarily have to 290*290 Pixels in size! You can use a whole image as your profile picture without cropping, by making it square-shaped. This can be done by making the height and width measures of an image to be the same.

Standard Whatsapp Profile DP Size for Profile Photo and Whatsapp Post

Use our Whatsapp profile photo image resizer, WhatsApp DP image resize online tool to generate exact standard file sizes in pixels required to share on this platform.

From the tool given below, select the WhatsApp menu and choose the option you require to resize the image to exact dimensions. You can also click on the Manual Resize option to resize the picture in the assigned size. Use a cropper to crop the photo.

Whatsapp Profile Photo Size

Many of us use WhatsApp both for personal and professional purposes, and there are times when we might want to use display photos that are not meant for everyone to see.

WhatsApp has some pretty neat privacy features including one that lets you hide your profile photo from other users. Many of us use WhatsApp both for personal and professional contacts and it possible that you might want to use a display photo on the messaging app that you do not want others to see. WhatsApp does have an option for you to block that from certain users.

Why you must hide your WhatsApp profile pic?

WhatsApp profile pictures can be seen and saved by all WhatsApp users by simply taking a screenshot if it is not hidden. You might have spoken to certain people on WhatsApp who are not family or friends and are not on your contact list. If your profile photo is not hidden then anyone can see and save it if they want.

The best thing to do is to hide your profile photo from people you do not know and do not trust.

Also, by choosing to allow only certain people to see your WhatsApp profile photo means that you can use any photo you like without having to worry about it.

How to hide your profile picture on WhatsApp

– Open WhatsApp and go to ‘Settings’.

– Click on ‘Account’ and then click on ‘Privacy’.

– Now, tap on Profile Photo.

– You will see that the default setting here allows “Everyone” on WhatsApp to see your profile photo.

– Change this to “My contacts” if you want your photo to be seen only by those whose numbers you have saved in your phone book.

– If you want no one to see it, pick “Nobody”. This hides your picture from everyone on the messaging app.

Once your profile picture is hidden, all the people messaging you will just see a grey avatar as your DP.

Unfortunately, there is no way to hide your profile picture from only a bunch of users. One way around it is to not save the numbers of random people you might have to message for one-off reason – like a delivery guy who needed your location for example.

How to change who can see your profile photo on whatsapp

WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Facebook, has several important privacy and security-related features, including end-to-end encryption, screen lock, read receipts, and two-step verification. If you’re an avid WhatsApp user, you’ll be happy to know there are more privacy features you might not know, such as hiding your profile photo from other users.

For the most part, you probably don’t mind others seeing your profile photo on WhatsApp, but you may have an issue with strangers, even specific contacts, having access to your photo for whatever reason (stalking, avoiding drama, etc.). Luckily, WhatsApp allows you to show your profile photo to either everyone, only your contacts, or no one at all. There’s also a workaround to help hide your profile photo from individual contacts on both your iPhone and Android phone.

Below are a couple of screenshots of what your profile photo looks like when it’s hidden from other WhatsApp users. Instead of your photo, a grey avatar appears on your profile and in conversations.

Option 1: Show Your Profile Photo to Contacts Only

By default, WhatsApp shows your profile photo to everyone, which includes not only your contacts but also anyone else with the application. If you want to hide your profile photo from strangers, but not from your saved contacts:

Tap on “Settings” in the navigation menu at the bottom (on iOS) or tap the vertical ellipsis in the top right, followed by “Settings” in the drop-down (on Android). Next, go to Account –> Privacy –> Profile Photo.

The default setting is “Everyone” in the list of options. Tap on “My Contacts” so that your profile photo only appears to the contacts saved on your phone in WhatsApp. No one else will be able to see your picture in the app.

Option 2: Hide Your Profile Photo from Everyone

If you want to take it a step further, you can hide your profile photo from everyone on WhatsApp, including your saved contacts. Just like in Option 1 above, make your way to the “Profile Photo” setting, but this time tap on “Nobody.” No one, not even your contacts, will be able to see your profile photo.

Option 3: Hide Your Profile Photo from a Specific Contact

Unfortunately, there is no official way to hide your profile photo from a specific contact, but you can get around that by erasing the contact from your phone and following Option 1 up top so that your profile photo appears only to saved contacts. Even if your contact is deleted from your phone, your conversation (if there is one) will stay intact inside of WhatsApp.

If you’re on an iPhone and want to delete a contact, go into the Phone app and select the “Contacts” tab or open up the Contacts app itself. Select the contact you want to remove, hit “Edit” in the top right, scroll down, then tap on “Delete Contact.”

On Android, select “Contacts” in the Phone app or open up the Contacts app directly. Find the contact you want to remove, tap on them, select the vertical ellipsis in the top right, then “Delete” from the drop-down.

Now, whether you’re on Android or iOS, repeat the above process for any remaining contacts you want to remove — you’ll still be able to talk to them on WhatsApp. Then, follow Option 1 and select “My Contacts” so that only your contacts can see your profile photo on WhatsApp. Because you’ve deleted the contact from your phone, they won’t be able to see your picture. It’s not a great way of going about this, but it works.

When you communicate primarily through your phone, it’s difficult to shake the sneaking paranoia that comes with being in such close contact when you feel you’re being ignored.

Blocking someone on WhatsApp, while brutal, is a pretty straightforward way to ensure they can’t contact you. There’s also a lot of conflicting information floating around the internet on how to tell whether someone’s blocked you or not. Read on for a no-nonsense guide to working out if you’ve been excommunicated, and, crucially, how it appears within the app.

What it looks like when you’re not blocked

The i newsletter latest news and analysis

A regular conversation displays your contact’s name and profile picture. I can also see that Anna’s online.

How it appears once you have been blocked

Now Anna has blocked me, I can’t see whether she is online, or when she was last seen. This is complicated slightly by the fact you can adjust whether your contacts can see your ‘last seen’ movements under settings, but only blocking someone can hide the fact they’re online at that very moment. Similarly, I can no longer see her status.

WhatsApp states that once someone has blocked you, you won’t see any updates to the person’s profile picture. The reality is slightly more dramatic than that – you can’t see the profile picture at all.

If I try to message Anna whilst I’m blocked, the message will display a single tick (message sent). So long as I am still blocked, Anna will never receive the message, and the icon won’t change to two ticks (message received). If your message is marked with two ticks, you haven’t been blocked.

I can still make a WhatsApp voice call to Anna while I’m blocked, but it will just continue to ring out. The call never actually reaches Anna’s phone, it just gives the impression it does.

Even once Anna has unblocked me, the message I sent to her earlier remains undelivered.
