Care.com helps families find caregivers for their loved ones and pets through their website and app. Using the service, whether as a customer or a caregiver, requires making an account.

Jump ahead to these sections:

Eventually, you may no longer have use for yours. Or a loved one may have had their own Care.com account, but they’ve since died.

This guide will explain how to delete a Care.com account in both of these scenarios. That said, if you’re starting the end-of-life planning process, you may want to gather the login information and other relevant info for all your loved one’s online accounts while doing so.

Although deleting a Care.com account for a loved one after they’ve died isn’t very difficult, it’s definitely much less challenging when you have all their information on hand from the start.

How to Delete Your Own Care.com Account

Deleting your Care.com account is relatively simple. All you have to do is follow these basic steps:

Step 1: Log in

Care.com specifically advises logging into your account from a desktop computer.

Step 2: Open ‘Account Settings’

On the top right of your account page you’ll find a drop-down menu. Select it, then select “Account Settings.”

Step 3: Choose ‘Membership Information’

On the Account Settings page, scroll down to the section on “Membership Information.” You’ll see a link that reads “Close Account.” Click on it.

Step 4: Choose your reason

Care.com will prompt you to choose a reason for closing your account. Select the applicable reason, click “Continue,” and you’re all set!

How to Delete a Deceased Loved One’s Care.com Account

The steps involved in deleting a Care.com account for a deceased loved one can vary depending on your specific circumstances. Thus, the following isn’t a list of steps, so much as a list of two different ways to handle this particular task that may be among your executor duties .

Deleting these accounts can be a chore, but it’s an important way to protect your loved one’s identity. For more tips and next steps, follow our comprehensive post-loss checklist.

Option 1: Start the account under your name

Planning ahead often makes handling a loved one’s digital assets after their death much easier than it might otherwise be.

In many instances, it makes sense that a person in need of a caregiver would entrust a loved one to manage their Care.com account. For example, maybe you’re arranging care for an elderly and ill parent. In this situation, it would be more appropriate for the Care.com account to be under your name anyway.

Thus, when your loved one dies, you won’t need to take any special steps to delete the account. All you’ll have to do is follow the steps above. Or if a loved one wishes to make the account under their name, they might still be willing to provide you with their login info. That’s all you’ll need to delete their account after they pass.

Option 2: Reach out to Care.com directly

There may still be instances when you need to delete someone else’s Care.com account after they die and you won’t have the login info. For example, perhaps your spouse created a Care.com account to arrange care for their elderly parents, but your spouse suddenly died, leaving you responsible for managing their digital afterlife .

In these circumstances, Care.com’s customer service team suggests reaching out to them directly and explaining the situation. You’ll need certain information and documentation. This includes the email associated with the account, as well as documentation proving your loved one has died and you’re the executor or administrator of their estate.

Tip : When creating online accounts, you should also consider using a password manager to ensure you never lose track of your login info. This type of tool can be particularly useful when you’re trying to delete an account.

OP this is what I did. I kind of hate care.com but they are the biggest and quickest job getting site out there. I got a speeding ticket like 9 years ago that I took to court to fight the good fight because the cop was in the wrong, long story short no one cared and I got a slightly lower level traffic ticket but now it shows up on my background check (while none of my other traffic tickets do.) So when a family ran a background check on me care.com flagged and closed my account. I called them and asked them to look at it, it was just a traffic ticket I took to court, they said they don’t care. Having a traffic ticket is as bad as being a child molester in their eyes. I had a lot of reviews and stuff I lost but I just had to make a new account with all the same info and I tell perspective families I will do background checks through any agency but not care.com and I’ve never had a problem. I still get lots of work through them.

I really wish there was a better site than care.com. I really can’t trust a site that allows for an employer to choose such a low hourly rate (and illegal). It just puts such a sour taste in my mouth and I hate giving them my business.

OP, your experience makes me dislike them even more. Also, what kind of potential employer flags someone because a TIcKET showed up in their background check?

Out of the two of you, I guarantee one of you is a pain in the ass to work with and I’m sure you can figure out who.

Anyways, hope your new profile works out and you find a job quickly and can get off that crappy site

Im not OP but I posted the story about being removed from care.com. The care.com system flagged me and suspended my account, not the family that ran the background check. I actually went on to work for that family for 4 years because we had already exchanged email addresses and I emailed her to let her know what was going on.

The problem with care.com is the system is automated and they either don’t have the staff to or tell their staff not to look into flaggings on a case by case basis. I clearly explained my situation and was told I could only get my account reinstated if I had the infraction removed from my background check within 90 days. Because there was no mistake to remove (the ticket was valid and I went to court thus it showed up on a courthouse records search) I had no recourse and my account was deleted 90 days later.

It’s really annoying and they could be a really good company and website with a couple changes. They are really popular, it’s a shame to see them become so crappy to deal with.

I am having the same problem! Can not find My Service! Help?

Yes . it Keeps Droping The Change In Profile . change would Like To submit Senior Care , as primary .on .My Profile

i cannot change mine either.I am very frustrated and cannot get any help.

I can’t change mine either. I’ve called the 800 number on Care.Com and have asked them to help walk me through it. Never works. Also having problems trying to get on the Discussion board Privately for senior care providers

Hello I would like to change my career how do I do that can someone please tell me

We’re looking for a sitter twice a month and both of these platforms charge about 40usd per month. which one should we use?

Personally, I’ve used care.com. but I never had to pay for it to search or inquire for sitters. Unless you’re referring to the cost for a background check.

they now charge you to read messages from applicants which is virtually the only way to communicate with them 🙁

I don’t have experience with either, but since you’re looking for someone for shorter time, do you have any of those annoying “[insert town] moms” pages on fb? I always see recommendations on there too. Just another way and avoid the $40 charge. Good luck!

great idea, thank you

no problem! I only thought of it because someone looking for a few days a month only, may not bother with something like care.com. But there are definitely people who would love to pick up a few days because they’re in school or moms themselves.

I have been hesitant with both, and I say that as someone who doesn’t have access to a network of babysitters or family around to help with the kids.

I forget, is your little guy in any kind of daycare program? If so, have you asked the teacher(s) for recommendations? This is how we found our sitter in Atlanta and she was amazing for our family, even if she wasn’t someone we would have necessarily chosen randomly. We recently moved states and we will be trying out a sitter this weekend who is an actual part time teacher at their new school. We will try out a sitter that a neighbor uses next month.

Just talked to customer support with this same issue. The said that you are out of luck, will have to make another account and pay the fee again to get premium membership on the new account to be able to message people directly. IMO this is terrible customer service and a horrid practice, as I find it really implausible that someone who provides care to another person will NEVER at any point require services through the site that they already have built a profile for and paid money to. Losing all interest in using this site in the future, completely unfair and ridiculous.

How annoying, the verbiage totally sets you up to click as if you need care then you’re stuck I guess. What a pain! Thanks for your help!!

Same here! The site is not user friendly and practically impossible to switch back and forth from posting a job to receive help and then to offer services.

I just upgraded my account to premium (I paid $60 for 6 months), and I am still unable to message nannies. I signed up as a tutor on care.com several months ago, and now I need to hire a nanny for my baby that is on the way! If I do need to open a new account, as this thread suggests, I expect care.com to reimburse me for this membership that I just paid for. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Sittercity Interviews

Software Engineer Interview

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Sittercity (Chicago, IL) in Aug 2021

1) Call with a contracted HR person (first call was a no show on their part so i rescheduled)
2) Was sent a coding challenge.

I had tried care.com a few years ago for a caregiver and I don't remember having any issues. Now I need a housekeeper so I decided to try it again. I was really surprise at the price $38.95 for a month, I was desperate to find someone so I paid it, little did I know there was a no refund policy and no customer service or support. From day one, the site was not working right, every time I tried to post a listing for housekeeper I would get an error saying it couldn't post and to try again later, but then when I closed the error page it would go back to the beginning of the site, then when I checked my job posting it was posted. Now if I tried to edit anything on my listing sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't. After about a week I finally got someone responding to my listing, I contacted her and interviewed her over the phone, she had 5 years experience and she was wanting $25 a hour listed on her resume. But when I asked her what experience she had, she said "well I've been doing chores for my parents since I was 15 years old." and she had no references. I told her I was willing to pay $10 a hour based on her lack of experience, she agree. I said pick which day you want to work, she said I'll call you back in a couple of days and tell you what day I'll come, I said ok. Couple of days go by, she never calls me back, so I texted her and she text me back saying "I'm sorry but I accepted a nanny position." I though ok not very professional or responsible glad she isn't going to work for me. Next I reported her to care.com for misrepresentation, personally I feel she misrepresented herself by lying about her experience, and lying about what type of job she was looking for, because as soon as she text me saying she got a nanny job she changed her profile to looking for a nanny position, but she told me that she accept a nanny position, then the next day she changed her profile back to housekeeper. Care.com said they would investigate, but I never got any reply back, and my review for her never showed up on the site! I'm guessing it's because she blocked me? I tried several times to find a contact # for care.com to report these issues with their site not working half the time, but there is no contact # or email or nothing. Care.com left me with such bad feelings that I cancelled my membership. Then I tried to delete my credit card I got a pop up message saying I couldn't delete it because my membership is still active? I find it funny that now that I cancelled my membership their site it kept bringing me care.com UK site, almost like they are trying to stop you from deleting your account and/or credit card off their site! I'm sorry I didn't check the reviews first, I just assume since I didn't have any issues last time it was still a good site. My only option now was to call my bank, cancel my credit/debit card and ask them for a chargeback, there is no way I'm paying for something that doesn't work!

If I could give care.com zero stars I…

If I could give care.com zero stars I would.

I posted a job for someone to look after our youngest and immediately had emails from the site telling me there were multiple good matches they had emailed for me.

In order to read their responses I would have to upgrade. I did for £35.

My address seemed not to go through their quality checks and was rejected. I changed it multiple times and called their helpline AND emailed customer services multiple times over 2 weeks.

They never responded to any communication, and did not approve my account. They did however take my money.
