How to write on instagram stories

Organizing your Instagram is a lot of fun! And it saves you a LOT of time and stress. But how do you do it without feeling overwhelmed? It’s much easier than you think.

I’m going to summarize all the tips I’ve been giving you in this blog post. I’m going to show you how to organize your Instagram photos and your hashtags. Follow these steps and I promise you’ll see a big difference.

1. Get Preview app

First step: get Preview app. Do you have it already? It’s an Instagram planner. It will help you see how your feed looks like before you post anything on Instagram.

You can organize your feed, rearrange your photos, schedule your posts, find hashtags and edit photos… and the list goes on.

You can upload as many posts as you want (photos, videos and slideshows). And you can create any theme you want (with all the filters).

Shoutout to our community for sharing their beautiful feeds with us:

2. Choose a layout

Choosing a layout is probably on of the easiest ways to organize your Instagram. There are 9 different types of Instagram layouts:

  • Squares
  • Tiles
  • Line in the middle
  • Row by row
  • Rainbow feed
  • Puzzle feed
  • White border feed
  • Mix

Choose one layout and stick to it.

3. Rearrange your photos

Another way to organize your Instagram feed is by rearranging the order of your posts. You can do that in Preview.

Tricks you can use to organize your feed:

  1. Avoid putting the exact same photo next to each other (same outfit, same color, same background color)
  2. Post in patterns (example: one photo, one quote, one photo, one quote… easy if you use a grid layout)
  3. Space out your photos based on the colors in the photo (avoid putting the exact same colors next to each other)
  4. Try to balance the look of your overall feed

4. Choose a color palette

Another good way to organize your Instagram is by sticking to certain colors in your photos. These colors are going to be your color palette. If you feel like your feed looks messy, this trick will save your Insta-life.

Choose 1 – 5 colors that always appear in your feed.

Pay attention to the colors of your subjects, objects, even your outfits (yes, next time pay attention to popular Instagrammers, you’ll see they wear the same colors most of the time). Instagramming is a lifestyle, my friend.

Today, Instagram is more than a social network. It’s a marketplace, where companies can communicate with potential customers and promote their brands.

So if you want to achieve success in a highly competitive niche, you should manage your Instagram account wisely. Every post you create should be interesting, informative, and engaging. Here you can learn how yo write catchy captions!

Set appropriate tone of voice

If you want to make Instagram post captivating, you should clearly understand who your target audience is. It will help you to set an appropriate tone of voice and choose a suitable writing style.

For instance, if you sell luxury goods and target baby boomers, you should express your ideas in a formal language. But if your audience consists of Millenials and Generation Z, you should pick an informal writing style. Speaking to youth, you may use slang phrases, buzzwords , and shortened words.

Let’s compare two posts published by popular fashion brands. Dolce&Gabban’s post is written in formal language and contains such sophisticated rarely-used words as “inexorably” and “baroque”. This type of captions perfectly appeals to the women of high society.

Now let’s take a look at Victoria Secret’s post. The caption consists of one simple sentence and shortened words. Obviously, this post doesn’t win the attention of wealthy adult women. But it perfectly appeals to the brand’s target audience – open-minded young girls.

Discuss topical issues

If you want to write a captivating post, you should address the questions, which your followers have. Your task is to research the topic thoroughly and provide your audience with comprehensive answers.

Keep in mind that you should avoid mentioning general facts because it may diminish the value of your post. Instead of it, it’s better to add statistics and real-life examples.

When writing a post, show your readers that they are not alone with their problem. Try your best to explain that the issues they face are common, and they just need to walk the extra mile to find the right solution. At the end of the post, you may add actionable advice or offer your product.

Ask fun questions

Social media users are ready to communicate and interact with companies like yours. For this reason, you don’t need to try too hard to boost engagement. All you need to do is to ask the right questions and start simple games, quizzes, or surveys.

Take a look at the following post published by Starbucks. Social media users were asked to “vote” what they saw on the photo: moon, croissant, or chicken. As a result of “voting”, an ordinary photo of the sky got more than 12,000 comments and more than a quarter of a million likes.

Here is another great example of an interactive post created by CupcakeProject. Author of the video asked followers to guess how many layers are in the cake.

This simple question made users curious and forced them to watch the video a few times to count the layers. In this simple way, CupcakeProject doubled the number of video views and the number of comments on the post.

So if you want to drive engagement, you should ask your followers fun simple questions, which even 10-year-old children can answer. Keep in mind that users should be able to reply to your questions using words yes/no/maybe, numbers, or emojis.

Add trending hashtags

Social media users love using popular hashtags. And if you want to make your publications catchy, you also should use at least one hashtag per post.

For instance, if you operate in the fitness niche, you may choose such well-known hashtags as #TransformationThursday, #GirlsWhoLift, or #NoPainNoGain. If you work in the beauty industry, you may select such funny tags as #LongLegsForDays, #MessyHairDontCare, and #BadHairDay. If you want to research your niche and choose the most suitable hashtags, you can do it with the help of Metricool hashtag tracker.

Also, if you can’t find suitable hashtags to describe your posts or products, you may create your own branded hashtags. In this way, you will document your brand’s tone and voice.

Share tips and life hacks

To achieve success in business, you should be generous and share useful tips, life hacks, recipes and professional recommendations with your followers. If you make your content more valuable, your audience will reward you with thousands of likes and comments.

Check iHerb’s Instagram account, you will see that the post with a healthy recipe of beet energy balls got in six times more likes than other publications. It proves the fact that most followers skip posts with ordinary product photos and short descriptive captions. They react only on those posts, which contain valuable information.

If you want to take your content marketing strategy to the next level, you should start writing long meaningful posts. If this task is too challenging for you, you may get help from writing services like Trust My Pape or browse Upwork for amazing talent ready to work.

Evoke fear of missing out

If you want to boost sales on Instagram, this tip is right for you. When writing a caption for product photo, you should find the right words to make your followers feel “fear of missing out” (FOMO). You should make people think that if they do not buy your product today, they will regret it in the future.

The following publication is an excellent example of emotional advertising on Instagram. Victoria Secret’s post makes girls believe that if they do not purchase a strapless bar right now, they will regret the missed opportunity “on the first warm day”. These words is a trigger, which forces women to place an order immediately.

How to write on instagram stories

Wrapping it up

If you want to boost your marketing efforts, you should diversify your content strategy. For example, you may alternate long posts with short ones, and life hacks with funny questions. Try to understand what your followers want and write posts, which will stand out on Instagram.

Be sure to watch and read the captions before posting as Instagram may not accurately transcribe your audio. Currently, users are unable to edit the captions after the fact.

NOTE: The Instagram captions sticker is only available in English and English speaking countries.

Don’t Have Access? Here Are Other Ways to Add Instagram Captions

If you don’t have access to the new captions sticker, no need to panic.

According to TechCrunch, Instagram is “rolling out the captions sticker first to Stories and will then begin testing it in Reels, with a broader launch to follow.”

Luckily, there are other ways to add captions in the meantime.

The first is to manually add text overlays in Instagram to summarize your key talking points:

Alternatively, you can use third-party apps to generate captions. The following apps are helpful resources:

Now you can add a captions sticker to Stories that automatically turns what you say into text.

"Sound off" is a request we get a lot so I'm excited that it’s coming to Reels too. We also hope to expand beyond a handful of countries soon.

It’s been one of the most highly anticipated features on Instagram — and for good reason!

As a brand, your Instagram content should be as inclusive as possible, and the new Instagram captions sticker helps with that.

Not only are Instagram video captions important for people who are watching without sound, but they’re essential for those with hearing difficulties. Especially since over 5% of the population — 466M people — have disabled hearing loss.

If a user is scrolling through Instagram Stories or Reels in a quiet public place without headphones, there’s a chance they may exit your video.

But, if that very same story had subtitles — it suddenly becomes easier for your audience to stop, watch, and understand the video.

Instagram’s latest text update is making it so easy to animate your Story posts. On Monday, Feb. 8, the tech giant decided to give users a more lively alternative to static texts and fonts by rolling out an animated text option — and TBH, the eye-catching addition is long-overdue. If you’re ready to try it out, here’s how to get animated text in Instagram Story to spice up your photos and videos.

Considering Instagram has already rolled out animated GIFs and stickers on Story as a way to engage followers, the highly-anticipated Feb. 8 announcement that users can now make their text move as well was a welcome one. While the feature — which was first sighted in July 2020 by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi — was previously only available through third-party apps, you can now use animated versions of the static texts and fonts you’ve grown accustomed to. Every static text option comes with a different corresponding animated look, giving you so many options to spice up your Instagram Story photos and videos.

To try it out for yourself, you’ll want to first make sure your Instagram app is updated to the latest version (version 174.0). Then, open the app and head to your Story camera. Every iOS and Android Instagram user should currently have access to the feature, so if you don’t see it, try restarting your app and double-checking if you have an update waiting.

To find the animated text, you’ll want to snap a picture or video like usual in Stories. Then, tap the text button (Aa) at the top right corner of the screen like you’d normally do to add static text. You’ll now see four icons at the top of the screen instead of just three, and the animate button is located at the far right. (It looks like an italicized "A" with two horizontal lines on its left side.)

After you’ve found the animate text button, choose a style from the nine font styles at the bottom of the screen, write out whatever you want to say, then tap that animate button. Your text will then become animated and, depending on the font style you choose, you can expect to see it flashing on your screen or appearing letter by letter with a variety of different aesthetics. If you’re not a fan of one look, go back and adjust the font to find one you like — each font has a different movement.

TBH, it’s surprising that it took this long for Instagram to roll out a feature that allows you to animate different texts and fonts, but now that it’s here, have fun trying out the different looks and adding a new engaging element to your Story posts.

Captions are an important part of making sure videos are accessible to everyone, but they can be a pain to add on your own. Instagram has a nifty tool that can automatically add them to Stories. Let’s try it out.

The automatic captions feature is available when you record a video for your Instagram Story. The captions are actually one of the many “stickers” you can add to a Story. Instagram automatically transcribes what you say, but it can be edited as well.

First, open the Instagram app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android smartphone or tablet. From the Home tab, tap “Your Story” in the top row or swipe in from the left side of the screen to open the Story creation page.

Next, making sure you’re on the “Story” tab, hold your finger on the shutter button to record the video. Of course, you’ll need to speak if there’s going to be something to caption.

How to write on instagram stories

After you record the video, tap the sticker icon at the top of the screen.

Now select the “Captions” sticker. You may not see this option if the feature hasn’t arrived on your device yet.

How to write on instagram stories

The captions will appear on-screen. You can move them around and select from four different text styles.

How to write on instagram stories

You also have the option to tap the text to make any corrections and to customize the color. Tap “Done” when you’re finished editing.

Lastly, if you’re done adding other stickers and editing your video, tap “Your Story” in the bottom-left corner to add to your Story, or share it with specific friends and groups.

There are few people today who have never posted a single story to their Instagram account.

This feature became popular almost instantly and today it’s used by influencers, artists, businesses, and of course, us mortals as well. Instagram stories are interesting and dynamic, far more authentic than photoshoped posts on your feed, and they allow you to use your imagination to the max! Not to mention that other social media networks followed suit, introducing this option not so long ago.

How can you make your stories awesome? Have you tried making text move?

Can I Make Quotes and Tags Move?

Plain text is so last year. We try to make stories more innovative every day, so new fonts, sparkly letters, and moving text is the way to go.

There’s no option to make your text move within the app itself. You can make your writing pink or blue, change size, use different fonts, move the text around on your screen, but you can’t really make quotes and tags move on their own once you post the story.

However, there are ways to do this. The simplest one includes some of the cool apps available on Google Play Store and App Store. Our top suggestions are definitely Adobe Spark Post and Hype Text.

Adobe Spark Post

Adobe Spark Post is certainly one of the greatest designing apps, given the number of features you can use. With this app, you can create spectacular videos and upload them to your Instagram story. We guarantee you won’t go unnoticed. Here’s how to do it:

More Ideas on How to Make Your Stories Fun

There’s still a way to make your text move in Instagram stories without using third-party apps. It’s worth mentioning because sometimes it does look cool.

However, you don’t have many options here, at least not as many as the apps mentioned above offer. The text will only move along with the part of the video it’s pinned to, and only if it’s in the form of a tag, mention, or GIF. How?

Just do the following:

  1. Tap on the sticker icon at the top of the screen where you’re creating your story.

  2. Choose what you want to pin. It can be a location, a tag, a poll, a GIF – anything.

  3. Tap it and hold until you see Pin option at the bottom of the screen.

  4. Place the item where you want it and tap Pin when you’re all set.

Whether you’re managing your own private profile or a business one, Instagram stories are there to boost the engagement on your page. For that reason, you shouldn’t regret spending hours on creating awesome stories for your profile!

How many stories a day do you post to your Instagram account? Let us know in the comments section below!

Instagram’s newest Stories feature doesn’t feel much like Instagram. The platform’s new “type mode,” which starts rolling out today, lets users add pages to their stories that just involve text. No photos or videos are needed. Users can choose from colorful, customizable backgrounds and different text styles, including a neon font and one that’s reminiscent of a typewriter. Stickers can be added, too. You’ve probably already seen a similar-looking page when you respond to a friend’s direct messages.

I don’t fully understand why Instagram wants to give people a place to share their written thoughts. I like Instagram mostly because I don’t have to read anything. I just absorb copious amounts of photos and videos. I go on Twitter or Facebook if I want to read a rant. But Facebook has slowly brought features to Instagram that originated with the flagship platform. In fact, this style of “bold white text on a brightly colored background” started in the main Facebook feed, and a type mode already exists in Messenger and Facebook Stories.

There are other examples: Instagram DMs now say how long ago someone was active, like Facebook Messenger. Those DMs also have read receipts that are on by default and cannot be turned off, just like Facebook Messenger. It’s a terrible situation when you’re trying to avoid people.

Users can also now create “archives” of photos and videos they previous posted to their main Instagram grid, which effectively hides those posts from their followers without fully deleting them. This is similar to how Facebook users can toggle privacy settings on individual photos.

Really, I just hope this new type mode doesn’t catch on because I’m really trying to limit how many random thoughts I have to read on a daily basis. Also, I like Instagram. Please don’t ruin it with words, Facebook.
