In Skype for Windows 10, sending an instant message to a contact will act as an invitation. That is the reason why you are not seeing an option to accept a contact request. Once you send an instant message to your colleague, they will have an option to accept or decline you on their account.

If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to reply to this post.
Thank you!

Unfortunately, this doesn’t appear to work. I received his message “I would like to add you as a contact,” to which I replied, “yes, that would be nice.” But he was unable to include me in a conference call because he says I don’t appear with a green dot by my name even though I am online. He and I have exchanged instant messages, but his name still doesn’t appear on my screen with a green dot when he is logged on either and there is a blank white circle beside his name. I can call him, but he says that he cannot include me in a group conference call because I have not yet accepted his invitation.

How to accept a contact request on skype on android

Since this issue doesn’t affects the Skype for browser, as a workaround you can log in to Skype for Web and accept the request, after which the contact will be automatically added to the Skype for other platforms. By the way, the other helps the restart Skype (ie, exit Skype and launch it again).

Another way to get the missing requests is to open Skype → Tools → Settings → Privacy, change any option (for example, enable/disable “Accept Skype browser cookies”) and click “Save”. After a few seconds, you will receive all contact requests. About this method told me Artemy (a reader of Russian side of the blog).

It seems developers are testing a fix for contact requests issue. According to my tests in the insider build 7.33.76.200 contacts requests works properly and I receive them as expected. You can download the insider installer at this URL https://aka.ms/skypeinsiderregister (please let me know if it works for you too).

I’m unsure if it’s because the sender is using a mobile app but I am using web only and have had contact requests take up to a day to be received.
I am also unable to chat with people who aren’t on my contact list which is causing negative effects for my business.

I have noticed I get 0 contact requests and then like 5 request at one time. And when I approve them, no one is there. Like they sent the request a day ago or hours ago.

So I see using the web browser you can get the request faster.
It has really affected my business for the last few days.

So I guess I will have two applications opened, the skype app and the Skype browser.

Sorry, I have to disagree strongly.

I’ve had this issues for months, not days & I too have lost money because of it.

I complained in the Skype community, but clearly no one cares.

In fact, I didn’t even get responses to my thread, & I don’t see any other thread about it, so what did they do, erase the threads?

I think it’s time we start moving to another IMing platforms.

MS (as usual) has ruined what Skype used to be.

I will try to use the desktop version & see if that helps, but does it ding me?

Thanks for the article.

Hi! Maybe I’m wrong, but this issue really appeared recently. If you encountered it several months ago, I suppose that it’s caused by something else. What’s your Skype and OS version, and what’s the result of the command /dumpmsnp?

About threads on official community — moderators for sure do not remove them, you can find dozens of topics on English board by using search query «request» or «contacts» (just be sure do disable «metadata» option and sort topics by date).

We’ll just agree to disagree.

Just b/c they didn’t say it was a problem months ago doesn’t mean it didn’t exist & no one realized it.

I’m on Win 7 & I always have the latest version of SK if it tells me to update, although now come to think of it, that SK on that computer rarely tells me to update, whereas the Skypes on my other computer do.

So I was running 7.30 & I had to manually update it plus it asked me to approve the terms & whether I wanted Bing as my homepage & yet the other skypes on my other computer never do that, they just update.

I don’t know what /dumpmsnp is or how to do it.

OMG, now after updating, it won’t let me IM with someone unless I add them to my list. That is TERRIBLE. I don’t add strangers to my list.

Is this what the issue everyone is talking about?

That’s not what I was talking about, I was talking about not getting IMs until hours or days after they are sent. : (

I mean that I personally noticed that delayed contact requests issue appeared recently. And it seems, your issue is not related to delayed contact requests. Right? Anyway, this for sure is not a global issue and you must find out what’s the problem or contact official Skype Support.

ps. /dumpmsnp is a Skype command. Follow this URL to find more details about them:

Ok, so they did this on purpose!

Amazing. Who thinks up these stupid things over there.

Well I don’t know how to solve the other issue. I have the browser version open now, but I’ve seen messages popup that are NOT showing up in the browser version. : (

Do you want me to do this dump?

I’ve tried to contact Skype, but all it does it take me back to the community & I already posted this issue months ago & no one responded to it.

And if you read the other messages on here, the tech support for skype, are people who argue with the users, don’t believe them & I don’t need to deal with some idiot techie who tries to talk the user out of their own issues just b/c they can’t be bothered to listen & solve the problem.

I have spent 3 hours on two seperate occassions now. Both Times I am told it is an “isolated problem” in regards to the not recieving contacts. I use the web and they show up sooner. But i created test accounts and they did not go through. Skype chat was not helpful but siad both times will forward the issue up. (headbang)

Also. on the messaging being disabled: the support guy did not believe me until I showed it to him myself. He said that he will need to forward that up as well.

i upgraded the other day when Skype posted upgrade available on my windows 7 home premium edition OS

i lost my credit same as the last time i upgraded no problem your welcome to it

my problem is i can no longer contact my friends now

so i removed the upgraded Skype i just installed to see if that was the issue

and re-downloaded the classic Skype version i had previously

next i had one of my friends send me a contact request and when i received it i went to recent there is a ? by his name

PER SKYPE home page instructions I clicked on the name and looked for the accept option

no accept option that i could see (where should it appear)

and message box displays messaging disabled until request is accepted so i cant type a message to send to get everything to work as suggested

any help would be appreciated thanks

Do you see a resend contact request option when you click the user’s name?

Just to confirm, this is for the classic version, right?

confirmed classic version

as with all computer programming problems

i pinched poked prodded clicked on and hit enter everywhere i could find a spot that looked like it might do something

now the contacts name has gone from a name with a ? mark symbol to the old avatar i am use to seeing

and when i click on the avatar their call page opens up and when i click on call the call goes thru and rings

the message box is now functional

when i right click on their name the drop down box opens up and there is a call option listed along with a remove from favorites and remove from contact option listing also in the drop down menu box

I have also checked to see that my microphone and speakers are listed correctly in the call audio settings drop down menu section and they are

On WhatsApp, people automatically appear in your contacts list if their number is saved on your phone. However, you need to save contacts in other apps such as Skype to chat with them. And to save contacts, you either require their phone number, email address, or their Skype live ID. Let’s see how to add a person on Skype using their Skype live ID.

How to accept a contact request on skype on android

Skype live ID, in simple terms, is your unique username on Skype. It is referred as Skype Name by Microsoft. You will find it in the settings using Skype Name only. So, it’s nothing different or strange that needs different steps. That is, you can add contacts using live ID on Skype by following the same steps as you would do for an email address or a phone number.

Don’t worry if you aren’t familiar with that. Here are the steps to add contacts on Skype for both desktop and mobile.

How to Add Contacts on Skype on Desktop Using Live ID

There are two ways to do it.

Method 1: Using Search

Step 1: Launch the Skype app on your PC.

Step 2: You will find the search bar at the top just below your name. Type the Skype live ID, email address, or the phone number of the person whom you want to add. Skype will show the suggested results.

Step 3: Click on the name of the person whom you want to add. Send a message to the person. The person will receive a request along with your message.

Note: You can only send up to 10 messages to the person until they accept your request. Also, if you send any image in the meantime, it will be blurred.

Method 2: Using Add Contact Button

If you want to go the traditional way of sending a request without a message, you should use the New Contact button. For that, open the Skype app and go to the Contacts tab at the top. Click on New Contact.

Type the live ID of the person in the search box. You can also search using their full name, email address, or phone number. You will be shown the suggested results. Click on the Add button next to the person whom you want to add.

Tip: Many times, the person doesn’t receive a request using this method. If that happens, send them a message.

Skype remains one of the most popular ways to text, call and video chat with others, either on smartphones on on PCs. However, people who use the Microsoft-owned service on Android can sometimes encounter issues with using Skype.

In this article, we take a look at the some of the more common Skype problems on Android, along with some possible solutions to those issues.

Poor Audio Quality When Taking Skype Calls:

If you are using your Android phone directly to send or receive Skype calls, you may not get the best audio quality. You might get some improvements if you use the speaker phone function on Skype, or if you use a hands-free headset to make those calls. Microsoft also recommends that your phone should be connected to a Wi-Fi network for the best quality Skype calls. You should also try to remove all current running tasks on your phone so that Skype is the only app running, and therefor the only one using your mobile network or Wi-Fi connection.

Insufficient Storage Space Error When Installing Skype:

If you see this error pop up when you try to install Skype from Google Play, and you know your phone has more than enough internal storage, you might be able to solve it by going to your phone’s Settings menu. Tap on the Storage selection, and finally select the option to clear the cache files on your device’s internal storage. If this doesn’t work, you can try rebooting your smartphone, or even just wait a few minutes before trying to download and install Skype once again. Actually low on space? Here’s our guide on how to free up Android space.

Using more that one Skype account:

You may want to use more than one Skype account on your phone (one for personal use, one for business, etc). All you have to do is go into Skype’s Settings menu and uncheck the automatic sign in box. While you will have to sign in manually to use Skype every time, you can now use more than one of your Skype accounts

You are getting no Skype Notifications:

If you are not getting any notifications for Skype calls or messages on your phone, you should go into the app’s Settings menu and check to see that the “New Instant Message” and”Notifications System-Wide” boxes have not been unchecked. If they are unchecked, fix that, and you should start getting Skype notifications.

Skype Video Calls use up all of my mobile network data:

How to accept a contact request on skype on android

It goes without saying that making a Skype video call uses much more data compared to a text or audio call. If you are on a network with a limited data plan, you can save some of it while still making Skype video chats. Just go into Skype’s Settings menu, and then tap on the Voice and Video Calls selection. Then tap on the Video Call Qualith and set the video quality to a lower lever. That should reduce the amount of data used by the app for video chats.

Problems with signing into Skype:

If you encounter issues with signing into Skype, the first and obvious solution is to make sure you are using the right username and password. If that is the case, and you still cannot sign onto Skype on your phone, make sure you are using the latest version of the app that’s available to download from the Google Play Store.

If you still cannot sign in, close the app, go into your phone’s Settings, go to your App Manager, then scroll down to the Skype section. Tap on it, go into the storage option and clear the app cache and data files. Then exit, launch Skype on your phone and start the setup process again, As a last resort, you may have to uninstall the app, reboot your phone and reinstall it again from the Google Play Store.

I Can’t Use The Latest Version Of Skype:

If you are using an older Android phone, but can no longer use Skype, the first thing you should do is to update it to the latest version from the Google Play Store. If it still does not work, your phone may not have the hardware needed to run the latest version.

If that is indeed the case, another option is to use Skype Lite, which was made for the Indian phone market, but is available everywhere. Skype Lite has been developed to work on budget-based phones, along with networks that don’t have fast connections. Keep in mind that this app is still labeled as “unreleased”, which means there might be some bugs that might show up.

Skype Scrolls For No Reason:

If you find that your text chats start srolling on the Skype app on their own, it’s possible that your conversations were getting too long. If you were not already on a WiFi connection, you might want to connect your phone to one; it should solve this scrolling problem

Can’t Login With Facebook Account:

Starting in January 2018, Microsoft disabled the feature in the Android Skype app that let you log in with your Facebook account. If you want to log in to use the app, you must do it via an already established Skype account or with a new Microsoft Account. If you don’t already have a Microsoft account, you can create on at the link below.

How to accept a contact request on skype on android

Skype is a very wonderful tool for communication. Essentially, it enables you to call, chat and exchange files with your friends, family and even your officemates. It also allows you to add certain functionalities, such as video call recorders, to further enhance your Skype experience. You can add a number of contacts on your list and you will have the option to sort them in groups to make it more convenient and organized.

But Skype is also a very personal tool and it’s best to limit your contacts to the people that you really know. Sometimes, there might be instances wherein you will have to deal with unwanted or unsolicited Skype contact requests.

It is important that we know how to protect ourselves from these unwanted requests to avoid spams, scams and phishing. But what do we do when we’re faced with this situation?

  1. After you’ve logged in, you can view all of your contact requests by clicking “Contact Requests”. The number inside the orange circle indicates how many pending requests you have.
  2. When you click on one of those requests, you will then have the option to “Add to Contacts”, “View Profile”, “Ignore” and “Block”.
  3. The “Ignore” button allows you to decline a contact requests but that user will still have the option to send you another contact request in the future. When you click “Block”, it automatically blocks all contact requests, chats and calls from that user. You can also click “Report Abuse” if you feel that that user is a scammer or spammer.
  4. When you mistakenly added a suspicious contact request, you can just right-click on that user and click on “Block this Person” from the options list. This option blocks all requests, chats and calls from that user. Or you can click “Remove from Contacts” and confirm by clicking remove. Remember that this second option will still allow the “removed contact” to send you contact requests in the future.

The internet and online communication tools, such as Skype, are utilities for communicating with other people, but it can also be a playground for people who takes advantage of unsuspecting users. Hopefully, these simple steps can make your Skype experience more enjoyable, safer and more secured.

With Skype for Business, your users can search for and IM with everyone who uses Skype, the free app! This article explains what you need to do so they can add Skype contacts.

You must have admin permissions in Microsoft 365 or Office 365 to do this.

Using the Skype for Business admin center

Sign in with your Microsoft 365 or Office 365 admin account at https://portal.office.com/adminportal/home.

In the admin center, go to Admin Centers > Skype for Business.

How to accept a contact request on skype on android

In the Skype for Business admin center, choose Organization > External communications.

By default, your users can communicate with all other people in the world who use Skype for Business (assuming your firewall has been configured to allow this).

How to accept a contact request on skype on android

If you want your users to chat with Skype users, BUT you don’t want them to chat with others who use Skype for Business, choose On only for allowed domains. When you enable contact with Skype users, skype.com is automatically added as an allowed domain behind the scenes.

If you want to allow contact from all other businesses in the world using Skype for Business, except specific ones, choose On except for blocked domains, and choose + to add those domains. Everyone will be able to contact you except people on those specific domains. (Some businesses might choose this option, for example, if they are in litigation and need to ensure there’s no contact with the other business.)

Choose Let people use Skype for Business to communicate with Skype users outside your organization.

If you’re using Windows Firewall, Skype for Business opens the required ports automatically.

If your organization uses another solution to restrict computers on your network from connecting to the Internet, ensure client computers are able to access all of the IP addresses and URLs for Skype connectivity and Skype Directory Search. This may require adding them to the outbound allow list in your firewall or proxy infrastructure configuration.

WAIT UP TO 24 HOURS TO TEST. Any time you change the external communications settings, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to populate across all the data centers.

Show your users how to find and add Skype contacts to their list of Skype for Business contacts. Point them to Search for people in Skype for Business.

Test and troubleshoot

To test your setup, you need a contact on Skype who’s not behind your company firewall. They can be signed in to Skype using a Gmail account, Outlook.com account, or other type of email account.

After you change your external communications settings, WAIT UP TO 24 HOURS TO TEST.

Sign out of Skype for Business and then sign in again so you see the option to search the Skype Directory.

How to accept a contact request on skype on android

In Skype for Business, search for your contact in Skype, and send a request to chat.

If you get the message it couldn’t be sent due to company policy, you need to double-check your firewall settings.

Another way to test whether the problem is your firewall is to go to a wifi location not behind your firewall such as a coffee shop, and use Skype for Business to send a request to your Skype contact to chat.

If you sent your Skype contact a request and they never received it, ask them to send you a request to chat. If the problem was establishing a connection between Skype and Skype for Business, that often solves it.

Now if the message goes through at the coffee shop but not when you’re at work, then you know the problem is your firewall.

What you can and can’t do

Skype for Business on Mac doesn’t have the ability to search for and communicate with Skype contacts.

When directory search is enabled, you can search for and find Skype and Skype for Business users. If for some reason you can’t find them by searching the directory, you can send them a contact request, and then have them sign in to Skype and accept it, so you can IM with them.

It’s not possible to allow IM connectivity with other IM providers such as Google or Facebook. You can’t use Skype for Business to send cell phone text messages.

It is not possible to record audio or video calls between a Skype Contact and Skype for Business contact.

What features are available when adding Skype contacts?

Skype contacts who signed in with their Microsoft account (formerly Windows Live ID) can get some, but not all, features when they are talking to your Skype for Business users.

Available with Skype contacts Not available with Skype contacts
Video conversations
Person-to-person instant messaging
Presence
