How to prepare for a date

When you enter some text into a cell such as ” 2/2″, Excel assumes that this is a date and formats it according to the default date setting in Control Panel. Excel might format it as ” 2-Feb”. If you change your date setting in Control Panel, the default date format in Excel will change accordingly. If you don’t like the default date format, you can choose another date format in Excel, such as ” February 2, 2012″ or ” 2/2/12″. You can also create your own custom format in Excel desktop.

Follow these steps:

Select the cells you want to format.

In the Format Cells box, click the Number tab.

In the Category list, click Date.

How to prepare for a date

Under Type, pick a date format. Your format will preview in the Sample box with the first date in your data.

Note: Date formats that begin with an asterisk (*) will change if you change the regional date and time settings in Control Panel. Formats without an asterisk won’t change.

If you want to use a date format according to how another language displays dates, choose the language in Locale (location).

Tip: Do you have numbers showing up in your cells as #####? It’s likely that your cell isn’t wide enough to show the whole number. Try double-clicking the right border of the column that contains the cells with #####. This will resize the column to fit the number. You can also drag the right border of the column to make it any size you want.

If you want to use a format that isn’t in the Type box, you can create your own. The easiest way to do this is to start from a format this is close to what you want.

Months as Jan–Dec

Months as January–December

Months as the first letter of the month

Days as Sunday–Saturday

Years as 1900–9999

If you’re modifying a format that includes time values, and you use “m” immediately after the “h” or “hh” code or immediately before the “ss” code, Excel displays minutes instead of the month.

To quickly use the default date format, click the cell with the date, and then press CTRL+SHIFT+#.

If a cell displays ##### after you apply date formatting to it, the cell probably isn’t wide enough to show the whole number. Try double-clicking the right border of the column that contains the cells with #####. This will resize the column to fit the number. You can also drag the right border of the column to make it any size you want.

To quickly enter the current date in your worksheet, select any empty cell, press CTRL+; (semicolon), and then press ENTER, if necessary.

To enter a date that will update to the current date each time you reopen a worksheet or recalculate a formula, type =TODAY() in an empty cell, and then press ENTER.

  • How Do I increase a date by 90 days?

I have to keep track of DVD’s out of Police patrol cars. state law says we
have to keep the data for 90 days. I want to be able to input a date into a
cell, and then have it automatically add 90 days to that date and put the new
date in the next cell over to the right. This new date will tell me when the
    DVD can be erased.

    Can this be done?

    A1 = your Date
    B1 = Your date + 90

    =DATE(YEAR(A1), MONTH(A1)+3, DAY(A1))

Re: How Do I increase a date by 90 days?

    A1 has the inputted date.

    B1 has this formula =A1 + 90

    Format both to Date.

To fancy it up a bit you could have B1 turn red when the 90 days was up.

    Select B1 and Format>Conditional Formatting>Formula is:

On day 90 B1 will turn red to alert you.

Re: How Do I increase a date by 90 days?

If I give you the answer will I get a “break” on my next speeding ticket?

Just add 90 to the date.

    A1 = 8/8/2006
    B1 = =A1+90

You can get “fancy” and use conditional formatting to highlight cells when
their expiration date arrives. That will make it easier to see which DVD’s
    need to be erased.

For example, using the above, B1 would return 11/6/2006. You can set cell B1
to change color on 11/6/2206 thus getting your attention.

    Select cell B1
    Goto the menu Format>Conditional Formatting
    Select Formula Is
Enter this formula in the little box to the right:

    Click the Format button
Select a different font color or a different cell fill color (or both!)
    OK out

Sometimes in a Microsoft Word Document , we want to add in our Document a Date Picker where someone can select a specific Date . We want the Calendar to be displayed, and for them to select a Date . This is where the Content Controls show up, where all we need to do is to create one. A quite simple procedure but very helpful one. All you need to do is to keep on reading the post below.

How to prepare for a date

What are Content Controls thought first? They are individual controls that we can add and customize for use in templates, forms, and documents. For example, many online forms are designed with a drop-down list control that provides a restricted set of choices for the user of the form. Content controls can provide instructional text for users, and we can set controls to disappear when users type in their own text. Source here .

In the image below I have activated the Developer tab, where we can see the areas that the Ribbon contains.

How to prepare for a date

We must then select the Date Picker Content Control command from the area of the ribbon named Controls as shown below, where we will be able to Insert A Date Content Control .

How to prepare for a date

Before we select the command, we must place the cursor at the place where want our Date Picker Content Control to be inserted in our Document . Once we have done that, we select the command and then in our Document we notice a Control Picker mentioning Click Or Tap To Enter A Date . Once the Control Picker is still selected, we select the command Properties of the Controls area of the ribbon on the Developer tab as shown below.

How to prepare for a date

Once the Properties command is selected, the Content Control Properties dialog box appears as shown in the image below. How to prepare for a date

The Content Control Properties dialog box is separated in the following areas where we can use the following commands below:

    Under the area General :

    • Title: We type in the Title of the ContentControl .
    • Tag: We type in the Tag of the ContentControl .
    • Shown As: We can select one of the following options: BoundingBox, Start/End Tag, None
    • Color: We can select the Color of the ContentControl
    • Use A Style To Format Text Typed Into The Empty Control
    • Style: We can select one of the existing Styles for the ContentControl .
    • New Style: We can create a NewStyle for the ContentControl .
    • Remove Content Control When Contents Are Edited

    Under the area Locking :

    • Contents Control Cannot Be Deleted
    • Contents Cannot Be Edited

Under the area Date Picker Properties:

    • Display The Date Like This: We select the Format that we want for our Date to appear.
    • Locale: We select the LocaleSettings needing according where we are located.
    • Calendar Type: We select the type of the Calendar needed, for example Gregorian .

Change the Format of a Date Field in a Word Mail Merge Using Switches

by Avantix Learning Team | Updated April 6, 2021

    Applies to: Microsoft ® Word ® 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 and 365 (Windows)

You can change the format of a date field in a Microsoft Word mail merge document using switches in field codes. Typically, date formatting problems occur when the source document for the mail merge is an Excel workbook or Access database. Mail merge date fields can only be changed using switches. A date switch is a field code that changes the format of a date field (such as mm/dd/yy).

A date field in a Word mail merge is typically inserted in the main document using Insert Merge Field on the Mailings tab in the Ribbon.

Using codes in a date field switch

The common codes used in a date switch are d for day, M for month (this must be entered as a capital M as m is used for minutes) and y for year as follows:

    d = one or two-digit day

    dd = two-digit day

    ddd = abbreviated day name

    dddd = full day name

    M = one or two-digit month

    MM = two-digit month

    MMM = abbreviated month name

    MMMM = full month name

    yy = two-digit year

    yyyy = four-digit year

Date switches start with \@ and the codes that follow must be entered in quotes or double quotes. Field codes are enclosed in curly brackets.

The syntax of the full mail merge date field code with the switch is:

Changing the format of Word mail merge date field using a switch

To use a switch to change the format of a mail merge date field in Word, you will first need to display the field code and then type the switch starting with \@:

    1. In the main Word mail merge document, select the date field.
    2. Right-click the field and choose Toggle Field Codes from the drop-down menu to display the field code. You can also press Shift + F9 to display the field code.
    3. If necessary, delete \*MERGEFORMAT from the field code.
    4. Enter the switch after the field name (such as \@ “MMMM d/yy”). Be sure to type a space after \@.
    5. Right-click the field and choose Toggle Field Codes from the drop-down menu to hide the field code. You can also press Shift + F9 to hide the field code.
    6. Right-click in the field and select Update Field from the drop-down menu. You can also press F9 to update the field.
    7. Run the merge by selecting Edit Individual documents from the Mailings tab in the Ribbon and then click OK in the dialog box. In the merged document, the date should appear in the switch format.

    Date field formatting examples

The following are examples of mail merge date fields formatted using switches.

To change the date field formatting to a format to display the year, month and day (such as 2020-12-28), we used the following switch:

To change the date field formatting to display the full month name and 4-digit year (such as December 2020), we used the following switch:

To change the date field formatting to display the full month name, one or two-digit day and four-digit year (such as December 28, 2020), we used the following switch:

The name of the date merge field in the above examples comes from the Excel source file. The curly brackets cannot be typed.

.NET makes it easy to determine the ordinal day of the week for a particular date, and to display the localized weekday name for a particular date. An enumerated value that indicates the day of the week corresponding to a particular date is available from the DayOfWeek or DayOfWeek property. In contrast, retrieving the weekday name is a formatting operation that can be performed by calling a formatting method, such as a date and time value’s ToString method or the String.Format method. This topic shows how to perform these formatting operations.

Extract a number indicating the day of the week

If you are working with the string representation of a date, convert it to a DateTime or a DateTimeOffset value by using the static DateTime.Parse or DateTimeOffset.Parse method.

Use the DateTime.DayOfWeek or DateTimeOffset.DayOfWeek property to retrieve a DayOfWeek value that indicates the day of the week.

If necessary, cast (in C#) or convert (in Visual Basic) the DayOfWeek value to an integer.

The following example displays an integer that represents the day of the week of a specific date.

    Extract the abbreviated weekday name

If you are working with the string representation of a date, convert it to a DateTime or a DateTimeOffset value by using the static DateTime.Parse or DateTimeOffset.Parse method.

You can extract the abbreviated weekday name of the current culture or of a specific culture:

To extract the abbreviated weekday name for the current culture, call the date and time value’s DateTime.ToString(String) or DateTimeOffset.ToString(String) instance method, and pass the string “ddd” as the format parameter. The following example illustrates the call to the ToString(String) method.

To extract the abbreviated weekday name for a specific culture, call the date and time value’s DateTime.ToString(String, IFormatProvider) or DateTimeOffset.ToString(String, IFormatProvider) instance method. Pass the string “ddd” as the format parameter. Pass either a CultureInfo or a DateTimeFormatInfo object that represents the culture whose weekday name you want to retrieve as the provider parameter. The following code illustrates a call to the ToString(String, IFormatProvider) method using a CultureInfo object that represents the fr-FR culture.

    Extract the full weekday name

If you are working with the string representation of a date, convert it to a DateTime or a DateTimeOffset value by using the static DateTime.Parse or DateTimeOffset.Parse method.

You can extract the full weekday name of the current culture or of a specific culture:

To extract the weekday name for the current culture, call the date and time value’s DateTime.ToString(String) or DateTimeOffset.ToString(String) instance method, and pass the string “dddd” as the format parameter. The following example illustrates the call to the ToString(String) method.

To extract the weekday name for a specific culture, call the date and time value’s DateTime.ToString(String, IFormatProvider) or DateTimeOffset.ToString(String, IFormatProvider) instance method. Pass the string “dddd” as the format parameter. Pass either a CultureInfo or a DateTimeFormatInfo object that represents the culture whose weekday name you want to retrieve as the provider parameter. The following code illustrates a call to the ToString(String, IFormatProvider) method using a CultureInfo object that represents the es-ES culture.

    Example

The example illustrates calls to the DateTime.DayOfWeek and DateTimeOffset.DayOfWeek properties and the DateTime.ToString and DateTimeOffset.ToString methods to retrieve the number that represents the day of the week, the abbreviated weekday name, and the full weekday name for a particular date.

Individual languages may provide functionality that duplicates or supplements the functionality provided by .NET. For example, Visual Basic includes two such functions:

Weekday , which returns a number that indicates the day of the week of a particular date. It considers the ordinal value of the first day of the week to be one, whereas the DateTime.DayOfWeek property considers it to be zero.

WeekdayName , which returns the name of the week in the current culture that corresponds to a particular weekday number.

The following example illustrates the use of the Visual Basic Weekday and WeekdayName functions.

    Getting started in Apps Script

If you’re new to using Apps Script, it’s an easy-to-use, low-code platform that can help you tailor your G Suite applications. Don’t worry, you don’t need a Computer Science degree to get started. We’ll break it down for you step-by-step.

Before you dig into the code, we recommend that you reformat dates in your spreadsheet to make it easier to program. Go to Format > Number > Date Time.

How to prepare for a date

Coding is made simple when you break down the steps you need to complete a task into “sub-tasks.” We have four key actions that need to happen in order to sync data to a Calendar via code. Those sub-tasks are:

    1. Identify the calendar
    2. Import data from the spreadsheet
    3. Create events
    1. Make the script shareable for others to use

In this example, I set up skeleton code in Apps Script to make it easier for Kam to learn the G Suite service calls (you can see it in the video). Now we can input simple Apps Script calls to facilitate each sub-task!

    Step 1: Identify the calendar

First, we need to decide which Calendar we want to add information into. In this example, we want to add information from a spreadsheet into a team calendar. We use SpreadsheetApp to retrieve information from the spreadsheet that we’re working in. Then, the code will help us retrieve the value of the calendar ID from the cell that it lives in.

With that out of the way, we’re ready to port information from our Sheet into Calendar!

In this snippet, we are going to explore the ways of getting a timestamp in JavaScript in a fast and comfortable way.

    Date.now () Method

This method can be supported in almost all browsers. The Date.now () method is aimed at returning the number of the milliseconds, elapsed since the Unix Epoch. As now() is considered a static method, it is not capable of creating a new instance of the Date object. The example below demonstrates it:

    valueOf () Method

An alternative option is the value0f method that returns the primitive value of a Date object that has the same quantity of milliseconds since the Unix Epoch.

    Here is an example:

    getTime() Method

You have the option of implementing the getTime () method for getting UNIX timestamp that is equivalent to the value0f() method.

The example will look like this:

    Unary plus

Another approach is to use the unary plus operator that converts the Date object into milliseconds. You can implement it by calling the value0f() method of the Date object, like here:

    Number Constructor

For getting a time value as a number data time, you may act like this:

    Moment.js

If you already use the Moment.js library, you can also use the value0f() method, outputting the milliseconds’ quantity after the Unix Epoch. It is demonstrated in the following example:

As an alternative method, you can use the unix () in case you need to get the number of seconds since UNIX epoch.

    Date and Time in JavaScript

As date and time are a regular part of our lives, they are also considered prominent in programming. In JavaScript, you can create a website with a calendar, an interface for setting up appointments, and so on. All these are possible due to the built-in Date object. It stores date and time and provides a range of built-in for formatting and managing data.

So, the Date object in Javascript is used for representing both date and time. You can subtract the dates in JavaScript, giving their difference in milliseconds because the Date is transformed into timestamp when converted to a number.

    What is a Trial Balance?

A trial balance sheet is a report that lists the ending balances of each account in the chart of accounts in balance sheet order. Bookkeepers and accountants use this report to consolidate all of the T-accounts into one document and double check that all transactions were recorded in proper journal entry format.

Bookkeepers typically scan the year-end trial balance for posting errors to ensure that the proper accounts were debited and credited while posting journal entries. Internal accountants, on the other hand, tend to look at global trends of each account. For instance, they might notice that accounts receivable increased drastically over the year and look into the details to see why.

Tax accountants and auditors also use this report to prepare tax returns and begin the audit process. The TB format lends itself to a wide variety of uses.

    Trial Balance Format

The trial balance format is easy to read because of its clean layout. It typically has four columns with the following descriptions: account number, name, debit balance, and credit balance. It’s always sorted by account number, so anyone can easily scan down the report to find an account balance. This order also tends to be in balance sheet order since the average chart of accounts follows the accounting equation starting with the assets.

Not all accounts in the chart of accounts are included on the TB, however. Usually only active accounts with year-end balance are included in the TB because accounts with zero balances don’t make it on the financial statements. For example, if a company had a vehicle at the beginning of the year and sold it before year-end, the vehicle account would not show up on the year-end report because it’s not an active account.

The report also totals the debit and credit columns at the bottom. As with all financial accounting, the debits must equal the credits. If it’s out of balance, something is wrong and the bookkeeper must go through each account to see what got posted or recorded incorrectly.

This step saves a lot time for accountants during the financial statement preparation process because they don’t have to worry about the balance sheet and income statement being off due to an out-of-balance error. Keep in mind, this does not ensure that all journal entries were recorded accurately. It just means that the credits and debits balance.

A journal entry error can still exist. For instance, in our vehicle sale example the bookkeeper could have accidentally debited accounts receivable instead of cash when the vehicle was sold. The debits would still equal the credits, but the individual accounts are incorrect. This type of error can only be found by going through the trial balance sheet account by account.

Since most companies have computerized accounting systems, they rarely manually create a TB or have to check for out-of-balance errors. They computer system does that automatically.

    Preparation and Process

How is the Trial Balance Prepared?

When the accounting system creates the initial report, it is considered an unadjusted trial balance because no adjustments have been made to the chart of accounts. This is simply a list of all the account balances straight out of the accounting system.

As the bookkeepers and accountants examine the report and find errors in the accounts, they record adjusting journal entries to correct them. After these errors are corrected, the TB is considered an adjusted trial balance.

We still aren’t done with this report yet though. The errors have been identified and corrected, but the closing entries still need to be made before this TB can used to create the financial statements. After the closing entries have been made to close the temporary accounts, the report is called the post-closing trial balance.

Let’s take a look at an example.

    Example

How to use the Trial Balance

Here’s an example trial balance. As you can see, the report has a heading that identifies the company, report name, and date that it was created. The accounts are listed on the left with the balances under the debit and credit columns.

How to prepare for a date

Since the debit and credit columns equal each other totaling a zero balance, we can move in the year-end financial statement preparation process and finish the accounting cycle for the period.

    Step 12

    Both Petitioner and Applicant

Step 10: Prepare for the Interview

After the National Visa Center (NVC) schedules your visa interview appointment, they will send you, your petitioner, and your agent/attorney (if applicable) an email noting the appointment date and time. After you receive an interview Appointment Letter from NVC, you must take the following steps BEFORE the interview date.

    1. Schedule and Complete a Medical Examination

You (and each family member or “derivative applicant” applying for a visa with you) are required to schedule a medical appointment with an authorized physician in the country where you will be interviewed. This exam must be with an embassy-approved doctor, also referred to as the Panel Physician. Exams conducted by other physicians will not be accepted. You must complete your medical examination, along with any required vaccinations, before your scheduled visa interview date. Please visit our List of U.S. Embassies and Consulates for country-specific medical examination instructions.

After your exam, the Panel Physician will either send the exam results directly to the embassy or give you a sealed envelope. If the doctor gives you an envelope, do not open it. Instead, bring it to your visa interview and give it to the consular officer.

    3. Gather Documents Required for the Interview

Every visa applicant, no matter their age, must bring certain documents to the interview, including photographs, and the original or certified copy version of all civil documents submitted to NVC. You do not need to bring your Affidavit of Support or financial evidence you submitted to NVC.

What happens if you forget to bring something on this list? The consular officer will not be able to complete the processing of your visa. You will have to gather the missing items and provide them to the embassy or consulate, and may have to come for additional interviews. Failure to bring all items on the above list can delay visa issuance.

Planning to Make the Best Use of Your Time

How to prepare for a date

Are you making the best use of your time?

It’s the end of another busy working day and, even though you came into the office early and left late, you don’t feel as if you’ve accomplished anything significant.

It’s all too easy for this to happen. Faced with endless meetings, frequent interruptions, and urgent last-minute tasks, you can easily be busy all day without making any progress on high-priority projects and goals.

That’s why it’s so important to know how to schedule your time properly. In this article, we’ll look at the steps you can take to do this, thereby making time for the work that really matters, while still leaving time for personal development, family and friends.

    The Importance of Scheduling

Scheduling is the art of planning your activities so that you can achieve your goals and priorities in the time you have available. When it’s done effectively, it helps you:

    • Understand what you can realistically achieve with your time.
    • Make sure you have enough time for essential tasks.
    • Add contingency time for “the unexpected.”
    • Avoid taking on more than you can handle.
    • Work steadily toward your personal and career goals.
    • Have enough time for family and friends, exercise and hobbies.
    • Achieve a good work-life balance.

Time is the one resource that we can’t buy, but we often waste it or use it ineffectively. Scheduling helps you think about what you want to achieve in a day, week or month, and it keeps you on track to accomplish your goals.

    How to Schedule Your Time

Set a regular time to do your scheduling – at the start of every week or month, for example.

There are a number of different tools to choose from. A simple and easy way to keep a schedule is to use a pen and paper, organizing your time using a weekly planner. (Click here for a free downloadable planner template to get started.)

You can also use apps and software such as Google Calendar®, MS Outlook® and Canva. Choose a scheduling tool that suits your situation, the current structure of your job, your personal taste, and your budget.

The most important thing when choosing your planner is that it lets you enter data easily, and allows you to view an appropriate span of time (day/week/month) in the level of detail that you need.

Once you have decided which tool you want to use, prepare your schedule in the following way:

    Step 1: Identify Available Time

Start by establishing the time you want to make available for your work.

How much time you spend at work should reflect the design of your job and your personal goals in life.

For example, if you’re pushing for promotion, it might be prudent to work beyond normal hours each day to show your dedication. If, on the other hand, you want to have plenty of time for out-of-work activities, you might decide to do your allocated hours and no more.

    Step 2: Schedule Essential Actions

Next, block in the actions you absolutely must take to do a good job. These will often be the things you are assessed against.

For example, if you manage people, make sure that you have enough time available to deal with team members’ personal issues, coaching, and supervision needs. Also, allow time to communicate with your boss and key people around you.

    Step 3: Schedule High-Priority Activities

Review your to-do list , and schedule in high-priority and urgent activities, as well as essential maintenance tasks that cannot be delegated or avoided.

Try to arrange these for the times of day when you are most productive – for example, some people are at their most energized and efficient in the morning, while others focus more effectively in the afternoon or evening. (Our article “Is This a Morning Task?” can help you identify your best times of day.)

    Step 4: Schedule Contingency Time

Next, schedule some extra time to cope with contingencies and emergencies. Experience will tell you how much to allow – in general, the more unpredictable your job, the more contingency time you’ll need. (If you don’t schedule this time in, emergencies will still happen and you’ll end up working late.)

Let’s be honest: Sometimes the best information for a paper comes straight from a professor’s PowerPoint presentation. But did you know that source needs to be cited?

Whether you’re making use of your instructor’s lecture materials or pulling information from a Powerpoint found online, you need to make sure to cite your sources if you use information from it in a project or paper.

Here’s a run -t hrough of everything this page includes:

By now, you’re probably familiar with how to cite websites, books or journal articles, but not as knowledgeable about how to cite a Powerpoint presentation. In actuality, citing PowerPoint presentations aren’t all that different from citing written materials, so don’t let yourself be phased! It’s not too hard and compiling an MLA works cited or APA reference page doesn’t take too long—each one should take just a few minutes to create.

To help you with the process, we’ve put together a handy guide demonstrating how to cite a PowerPoint presentation in three commonly used citation styles: MLA, APA and Chicago.

Let’s start by looking for basic information you’ll need for the citation.

Information you may need to cite a PowerPoint Presentation:

    • Author or authors of the presentation
    • Presentation title
    • Date of publication/presentation
    • Place of publication/where the presentation was given
    • URL (if used to locate the presentation)

Cite a PowerPoint Presentation in MLA format:

Author Last Name, First Name. Presentation Title. Month Year, URL. PowerPoint Presentation.

    Example citation :

Park, Lisa. Effective Working Teams . Jan. 2011, https://www.company.meetings/teams. PowerPoint Presentation.

    In-text citation structure:

    Example in-text citation:

Cite a PowerPoint Presentation in APA format:

    APA reference structure:

Author or Presenter Last Name, Middle Initial. First Initial. (Date of publication). Title of presentation [PowerPoint presentation]. Conference Name, Location. URL

Park, L. (2011, March 24-28). Effective working teams [PowerPoint presentation]. Regional Dairy Workers National Conference, New York, NY, United States. https://www.company.meetings/teams

Cite a PowerPoint Presentation in Chicago Style:

Author Last Name, First Name. “Presentation Title.” Lecture, Location of Lecture, Month Day, Year.

Park, Lisa. “Effective Working Teams.” Lecture, The Plaza Hotel, New York, NY, January 11, 2011.

    Troubleshooting

Solution #1: How to cite a PowerPoint that has multiple authors.

    In APA

For a presentation with multiple authors, list the authors alphabetically by last name for the full reference citation. The citation will list each author by Last Name, First Initial.

If the PowerPoint has just two authors, separate them with a comma and an ampersand (&). If the PowerPoint has more than two authors, list the authors separated by commas.

Felner, D., & Nguy, A. (2021 April 10-12). The history of Claymation [Slideshow]. Animation Now, Los Angeles, CA, United States.

Felner, D., Nguy, A., Becham, G. (2021 April 10-12). The history of Claymation [Slideshow]. Animation Now, Los Angeles, CA, United States.

For an in-text citation for two authors, give both surnames separated by an ampersand (&) followed by a comma and the year of publication or presentation.

For an in-text citation for three or more authors, list the first author’s surname followed by “et al.” followed by a comma and the year of publication or presentation.

    In-text citation examples:

    (Felner & Nguy, 2021)

    (Felner et al., 2021)

    In MLA

For a PowerPoint with two presenters or authors, include both names in the full works-cited citation. The names need to be written as follows: First presenter’s Last Name, First Name, and then the second presenter’s First Name and Last Name.

For an in-text citation, simply list the surnames of both presenters.

    In-text citation example:

    (Nguy and Felner)

    Work-cited entry example:

Nguy, Anna and Dominic Felner. The History of Claymation. Apr. 2021. PowerPoint Presentation.

For a PowerPoint with three or more presenters, only list one presenter’s name followed by a comma and “et al.”

For an in-text citation for three or more authors or presenters, list the surname given in the full works-cited citation followed by “et al.”

Nguy, Anna et al. The History of Claymation. Apr. 2021. PowerPoint Presentation.

Solution #2 How to cite a slideshow that wasn’t made with PowerPoint

    In APA

If making a full works-cited citation for a slideshow that was made with another program other than PowerPoint, include the medium in brackets instead of PowerPoint.

If the presentation is not in PowerPoint, and you can’t determine what software was used, include the word “slideshow” in brackets in place of PowerPoint.

Nguy, A. (2021 April 10-12). The history of Claymation [Prezi presentation]. Animation Now, Los Angeles, CA, United States.

Nguy, A. (2021 April 10-12). The history of Claymation [Slideshow]. Animation Now, Los Angeles, CA, United States.

The in-text citation will be formatted like any other APA in-text citation (author last name, year).

    In MLA

At the end of your full works-cited citation, include the program the slideshow was made with, formatted as: ______ Presentation.

If you are uncertain of the program used, end your citation with “slideshow” followed by a period.
Nguy, Anna. The history of Claymation. Apr. 2021. Prezi Presentation.
Nguy, Anna. The history of Claymation. Apr. 2021. Slideshow.

The in-text citation will be formatted like any other MLA in-text citation (author last name).

If you’ve bought a house recently and don’t have the paperwork for all the appliances in the house, you might be wondering how old they are, what kind of parts they might need and how many more years they have left. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was such a thing as an appliance age finder? Luckily, most manufacturers mark their appliances with a certain set of codes, which should help you figure out the age of your appliance.

    Whirlpool Appliance Age Finder

The method used to date an appliance varies by brand, so be sure to look up your specific model and confirm what numbering system has been used. The Whirlpool brand includes a good number of other brand names in addition to Whirlpool, such as KitchenAid, SinkGuard, Roper and a number of others. On top of that, Whirlpool bought Maytag in 2006, so more recent models may have the Whirlpool numbers on them rather than the traditional numbers.

Are you looking for a Whirlpool appliance age serial number decoder? Whirlpool explains that in most cases, the code follows this pattern: The first alphabetic character represents the manufacturing division code. The second alphabetic character represents the year of manufacture, which you can look up online. The first and second digits represent the week of the year the product was manufactured. The remaining numbers represent a manufacturing order.

While some Whirlpool-related references might follow slightly different systems, this is a good starting point for most Whirlpool devices.

    GE Appliance Age

With GE-brand appliances, the serial number indicates the age of the appliance, explains GE. Each kind of appliance has its tags in a different place. Kitchen appliances normally have the number tags on an inside wall, but other appliances might use the door edges or the back of the unit. Once you’ve found the plaque with the numbers, use the serial number to determine the age of the appliance.

The first alphabetic character in the number represents the month in which the product was manufactured. The second alphabetic character identifies the year of manufacture.

These codes can be found on the GE website and will help you identify the age of your appliance. The year of manufacture works on a 12-letter system, so once you identify the years related to a letter, you may need to add 12 years to accurately discern when your appliance was made. Luckily, the appliance will have other identifying marks, like colors or features, that will help you to narrow down which year is the year of manufacture.

    LG Appliance Age

According to LG, the first numeric character in the serial number represents the last digit of the year in which it was made. The second and third numeric characters indicate the month when the appliance was manufactured.

With LG appliances, the only digit shared for the year is the last digit. Luckily, there should be other identifying marks that will help you distinguish between 2006 and 2016, for example. Look at the features of the appliance and look up the historical information so that you can determine which decade is more representative of your appliance.

As a general rule, most appliances don’t have a straightforward date stamped on their frames, but most companies do have some sort of decipherable code that will allow you to determine the year and month your appliance was made – for instance, a Hotpoint serial number year code. If you can determine not just the manufacturer but the company that happens to own it, you can find the way that business has chosen to represent the date where the appliance was made.

The income statement presents the revenues, expenses, and resulting profit or loss of a business. It is one of the three components of a complete set of financial statements, where the other two reports are the balance sheet and statement of cash flows. The following steps will show you how to prepare an income statement.

Step 1: Print the Trial Balance

Go to the accounting software and print the “trial balance” standard report. This is a summary report that contains the ending balance of every account in the general ledger.

Step 2: Determine the Revenue Amount

Aggregate all of the revenue line items on the trial balance and insert the result into the revenue line item in the income statement.

Step 3: Determine the Cost of Goods Sold Amount

Aggregate all cost of goods sold line items on the trial balance and insert the result into the cost of goods sold line item in the income statement. The cost of goods sold typically includes the costs of direct labor, direct materials, and factory overhead. This line is positioned directly below the revenue line item.

Step 4: Calculate the Gross Margin

Subtract the cost of goods sold from the revenue figure to arrive at the gross margin. This is the gross amount earned on the sale of products and services.

    Step 5: Determine Operating Expenses

Aggregate all of the expense line items below the cost of goods sold in the trial balance, and insert the result into the selling and administrative expenses line item in the income statement. This line is positioned directly below the gross margin line item.

    Step 6: Calculate Income

Subtract the selling and administrative expenses total from the gross margin to arrive at pre-tax income. Insert this calculation at the bottom of the income statement.

Step 7: Calculate the Income Tax

Multiply the applicable tax rate by the pre-tax income number to arrive at the income tax expense. Enter this amount below the pre-tax income number, and also record it in the accounting records with a journal entry.

    Step 8: Calculate Net Income

Subtract the income tax from the pre-tax income figure, and enter this amount on the last and final line of the income statement, as the net income figure. A variation is to also include net income as a percentage of revenue.

Step 9: Prepare the Income Statement Header

In the header of the document, identify it as an income statement, include the name of the business, and the date range covered by the income statement. The date range is normally for either a month, quarter, or year.

These steps only note the actions required to manually shift income statement information from the trial balance to a manually-prepared income statement. All accounting software has a standard income statement report that automatically presents the information noted in the preceding steps.

Populating default dates in SSRS can be helpful to save the user from having to constantly input the date range they normally would use. When a report is pulled for last month’s information, defaulting the date fields for the user can help streamline their usage of the report, instead of them manually selecting with the date-picker control in SSRS.

    The formula’s I used were:

To set the default date of the parameters:

    1. First open up the Report Data Window, and choose your date parameters.

How to prepare for a date

    2. Navigate to Default values, and click the Fx button to edit the expression for the field.

How to prepare for a date

    3. Paste the formula into the expression field and save.

How to prepare for a date

Result: Your default dates should now show last month’s date range. You can apply your own rounding or date types if you wish, this provides the time as well, since I was working with smalldatetime, datetime, and datetime2 datatypes.

I used jQuery datepicker and I want to restrict my input field with a HTML5 pattern if a user, instead of getting the date from jQuery datepicker, types the date.

How can I restrict my users with a HTML5 pattern so that they can just type the date in the form mm/dd/yyyy ?

Easiest way is use read only attribute to prevent direct user input:

Or you could use HTML5 validation based on pattern attribute. Date input pattern (dd/mm/yyyy or mm/dd/yyyy):

I use this website and this pattern do leap year validation as well.

Below pattern perfectly works in case of leap year and as well as with normal dates. The date format is : YYYY-MM-DD

I got this solution from http://html5pattern.com/Dates. Hope it may help someone.

How to prepare for a date

I’ve converted the http://html5pattern.com/Dates Full Date Validation (YYYY-MM-DD) to DD/MM/YYYY Brazilian format:

This is pattern to enter the date for textbox in HTML5.
The first one[0-9] <1,2>will take only decimal number minimum 1 and maximum 2.

This regex does the standard ISO 8601 YYYY-MM-DD format for the years 1900-2099, taking into account leap years.

All other examples seem to have some problem validating leap years, either not allowing the date February 29, or allowing this date in years that are not leap years.

    Returns

The TO_DATE function returns a date value.

    Applies To

The TO_DATE function can be used in the following versions of Oracle/PLSQL:

    • Oracle 12c, Oracle 11g, Oracle 10g, Oracle 9i, Oracle 8i

    Example

Let’s look at some Oracle TO_DATE function examples and explore how to use the TO_DATE function in Oracle/PLSQL.

You could use the TO_DATE function with the dual table as follows:

This would convert the string value of 2015/05/15 8:30:25 to a date value.

How to prepare for a date

There are a few different methods of how this can be done. The example below shows how you can use the date command in the for command to extract the current date and use that data to rename the file. Each of the for commands listed in this page would be placed into a batch file.

Below is a breakdown of the above command and what it all means.

    • for /f – The for command and the /f switch.
    • “tokens=1-5 delims=/ “ – How many tokens the incoming data (the date) will be broken into; 1-5 is five different tokens. Delims is short for delimiters and break up the date in this example, the / (forward slash) and a space (space before the quote).
    • %%d – The beginning character used for the token. Since there are 5 tokens in this example it would be d,e,f,g, and h.
    • in (“%date%”) – The data, which is the %date% (date) of the computer.
    • do – What the for command does. The rename command can be substituted for anything else.
    • rename “hope.txt” %%e-%%f-%%g.txt – Rename the file “hope.txt” to the tokens e,f, and g with a .txt file extension. This example also has a (hyphen) in-between each token to separate the month, day, and year in the file name.

When %date% is used in a batch file, it displays the date in the following format: Sun 09/02/2007. This command breaks this date into the tokens: “Sun” (%%d), “09” (%%e), “02” (%%f), and “2007” (%%g).

In this example, using the above date mentioned hope.txt would be renamed to 09-02-2007.txt.

This command is very similar to the above example. However, instead of using the forward slash and space to break up the data, we’re using a : (colon) because the time uses this character. Finally, because we’re renaming the file to only the hour and minute this example is only using the d and e token. Additional information about what everything in this line means is found in the above date example.

When %time% is used in a batch file, it displays the following format: 19:34:52.25. This command breaks this time into the tokens: “19” (%%d), “34” (%%e), and “52.25” (%%f).

Wondering how to make a form fillable? There are many different ways to make PDF forms fillable. You can use tools like Microsoft Word to create a form, or you can use a PDF editor to edit PDF form. Creating a fillable form in Microsoft Word requires complex editing tools that aren’t always easy to use for the average person. Making a fillable PDF form is not a bit more advanced than making other edits to PDFs. In this article, we’ll cover how to make a PDF fillable with Wondershare PDFelement – PDF Editor.

How to Make a PDF Form Fillable with 3 Steps

Making a PDF form fillable in PDFelement is pretty easy to learn once you know the right steps. Here’s the complete step-by-step guide for accomplishing this task.

    Step 1. Open Your PDF

The first step is to open your PDF file using PDFelement. Click on the “Open files” button to select the PDF file you need to edit.

Step 2. Make PDF Form Fillable

After opening your non-fillable PDF file in the program, there are two methods for you to make it fillable. If your PDF file already contains tables, lines, or boxes in it, then you can go to the “Form” > “More” > “Recognize Form” button to make the PDF form fillable automatically.

Step 3. Make a PDF Fillable Manually

If your PDF file does not contain any tables or fields already, then you can create fillable fields manually. Click on “Form” > “Add Text”, “Add check box”, “Add radio button” or “Add combo box” buttons to add a field anywhere you want on the PDF page. Double-click on the newly-added fields to open the properties box so you can adjust the properties as required. And there you have it – that is how to make a fillable form in PDF.

Tips on How to Wrap Long Text in Forms

If you need to add long text to a form field, you can choose to wrap the text. For that, you need to tap on the “Form” Tab, and click the “Edit” icon on the top right. Then you can select the “Add text” option to draw a text box. After that, double click the box, and select the “Options” button in the pop-up window. Then you can click the “Multi-line” option and close the window. Finally, you need to switch to the “Preview” mode, and then enter the long text in the box. After typing the text, you can see that the long text will be shown in multiple lines.

Why Choose PDFelement to Make PDF Form Fillable

PDFelement is a great application for both Windows and Mac, working smoothly on both operating systems. It is the perfect PDF editor, reader, annotate, creator, form filler, and even converter. You can easily create or edit PDF files in every possible way. You can even edit scanned PDF files.

When it comes to fillable form creation, you can add text fields, check boxes, radio buttons, list boxes (drop-down menu), and even a digital signature field. After importing your forms to PDFelement, it will automatically detect the fillable fields, which can be filled with text or by selecting the appropriate option. You can also convert PDF forms to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or even a simple text document to send to different users.

In addition to the above method, you can also convert PDF forms into fillable Excel sheets for easy use. Click on the “To Excel” button under the “Convert” tab. On the next screen, select the number of pages that you want to convert PDF to Excel and change the location of the output file. Finally, click on the “Save” button to save your file as an Excel sheet.

If changes happen in your life, you may wonder if you can make changes to your living trust. Find out how to change or amend your living trust.

    by Brette Sember, J.D.

Your living trust is your plan for the future. Sometimes, no matter how well you plan, life offers some unexpected twists and you may wonder how to make changes to a living trust. A few simple steps will allow you to make the changes you need.

    Trust Type

Before you can begin changing a living trust, you need to understand the type of trust you have. If you have an irrevocable trust, it is extremely difficult to make changes to it because the trust was set up to be permanent and not alterable. Most people, however, create a revocable living trust. A living revocable trust is designed to be flexible so you can make any change you want to it. You can even delete the entire trust if you wish.

    Reasons for Changes

There are many reasons that you may find you need to amend a living trust. If you decide to change or add beneficiaries if you have a new grandchild or suffer the loss of one of your existing beneficiaries, you may wish to make changes. You might decide you want to change when or how the assets in the trust are distributed (such as deciding you’d like your beneficiaries to reach a certain age before inheriting). You may find you want to change your trustee or successor trustee or you might choose to change the powers given to your trustee. You can also amend a trust if you decide to add or remove property from the trust. Common situations that lead to a trust amendment are divorce or marriage, birth of a child or grandchild, a move to a state with different laws, a change in tax laws, a change in your financial situation, or the death of a beneficiary.

Note that if you are simply adding property to the trust, you probably do not need to do anything other than transfer ownership of that property into the trust. Add the item to the schedule of assets in the trust and it is owned by the trust. An amendment is not necessary since your trust is set up to accept new assets.

How to Change a Living Trust

The simplest way to make a change to a living trust is with a trust amendment form. A living trust amendment allows you to make changes to an existing trust while keeping the original document active. If you have a joint trust with your spouse, you both must agree to any changes to the trust.

Fill out the form with the name of your trust. If this is the first change you’ve made to the trust, state that. If you have made other changes to the trust, you will need to list them by date. Indicate if this amendment overrides those previous changes or if you want them to remain in effect.

When you write the change you are making, be sure to refer to the original trust document by paragraph number so it is clear what provision you are changing. Be very clear about how you are changing this section of the trust. Make sure you state you are amending this section of the trust. Sign your living trust amendment before a notary. Attach the amendment to your original trust document and to any copies you made.

    Restating a Trust

Another way to make changes to your trust is to create a trust restatement. A restatement is a redo of the entire trust. The trust remains in effect, but its provisions are altered by the new document. This can make sense if you are making a great number of changes to the trust. Complete the trust restatement form, indicating the date of the original document and then restating the provisions, incorporating the changes you are making.

It is almost never a good idea to revoke your trust and start over because you will need to transfer assets out of the trust and then back into the new trust. Assets can get forgotten in this process. If you do wish to do this, you need to create a separate document stating you revoke the old trust, or state this in the new trust document. If you have a joint trust with your spouse, either of you can revoke it.

A trust amendment allows you to keep your trust current. Carefully updating your trust allows you to make sure your wishes are being carried out.

Because of the constant advancements in technology and the ever-increasing demands on computing power and speed, computers often have a relatively short lifespan. Depending on your use and care of the machine, you may need to replace your PC in three to five years. Knowing when your computer was originally assembled can help you to determine how much life your system may have left.

    • Operating System Installation Date

    1 Not an Exact Science

Most computers don’t have a manufacture date stamped on their labels, which can make it difficult to pinpoint when your machine was assembled. You can’t always go by when you purchased the computer, as some may sit in a warehouse or on a store shelf for long periods after manufacture. The best way to determine the approximate time your computer was originally assembled is by the BIOS or operating system install dates.

    2 Serial Number

Another way to determine your computer’s manufacture date is by looking at the label on the back or side of your tower. The date may be printed on this label, although that’s not always the case. If you can’t find the date, write down your computer’s serial number, and then contact the manufacturer’s customer service. A representative can tell you when your model was in production, and sometimes pinpoint the date your machine was finished.

    3 BIOS Installation Date

The installation date of your computer’s BIOS is a good indication of when it was manufactured, as this software is installed when the computer is readied for use. To check the BIOS installation date in Windows 8, press “Win-R” to open the Run dialog window, type “msinfo32” (without quotes), and then press “Enter” to see your computer’s system information with all the details of your model and installed components. Look for “BIOS Version/Date” to see what version of BIOS software you’re running, as well as when it was installed. Note that this will only indicate the manufacture date if you haven’t updated the BIOS from the original version that came preinstalled on your system.

    4 Operating System Installation Date

Your computer’s operating system was installed after the machine was assembled, and this date can serve as a good indication of original manufacture. To find your operating system installation date, press “Win-R,” type “cmd” (without quotes), click “OK” to open the Command Prompt window, and then type “systeminfo” (without quotes) on the command prompt to see a list of all information regarding your system, including the operating system’s original install date. Note that this date is only accurate as a manufacturing date if you haven’t reformatted your system and reinstalled the operating system at any time since purchase.

How to Insert a Date in MySQL

Using a database is mandatory for the creation of a dynamic modern website. MySQL has been established as a preferred database platform due to the indisputable qualities of this database server. Specifying the dates on which the content is entered is of prime importance for the structuring and the chronological arrangement of articles, posts and replies in a dynamic website. MySQL comes with several data types for storing dates in its database system: DATE, TIMESTAMP, DATETIME and YEAR.

How to use the DATE statement

The default way to store a date in a MySQL database is by using DATE. The proper format of a DATE is: YYYY-MM-DD. If you try to enter a date in a format other than the Year-Month-Day format, it might work but it won’t be storing the dates as you expect.

In order to run a MySQL Insert command and add the current date into your table you can use MySQL’s built-in function CURDATE() in your query.

An example of how to Insert a Date in MySQL using CURDATE

Also, you can run a query to set the date manually

An example of how to Insert a Date in MySQL manually

All these queries can be run by using a command line, a script (written in PHP, Perl, Python etc.), or via the PHPMyAdmin interface inserted in NTC Hosting’s sophisticated Web Hosting Control Panel.

Also, there is a statement that allows you to set only the YEAR of an event. The Year statement uses an YYYY format and has a range from 1901 to 2155 (for years outside this range you need to use the DATE statement)

Insert a date in MySQL using YEAR

Now let’s check how the YEAR statement works in a query. For our example we will use CURDATE() again. As we mentioned above, CURDATE() provides a lot more information than just the year, but when we use the YEAR statement all the date information, besides the year, is ignored.

An example of how to Insert a YEAR in MySQL using CURDATE

Set a date in MySQL using DATETIME

Using DATETIME you can store both the date and the time. Its format is YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:SS. Using this statement you can store the output for both DATE and TIME statements. Also, you can choose to store the date information only, but you can’t store just the time.

An example of how to use DATETIME

How to insert a date in PHPMyAdmin

As we mentioned above, there are several ways to store a date. One of the easiest methods is by using a database management tool such as PHPMyAdmin. With its graphical user interface and set of built-in features, PHPMyAdmin makes the database management an easy job. That’s why we, at NTC Hosting, have chosen the PHPMyAdmin web management tool and are providing it with all our web hosting plans.

To add a date information in PHPMyAdmin you need to log in the PHPMyAdmin interface and then to enter the ‘Insert’ tab. Then you can choose the appropriate Insert functions for each field using the drop-down list in the functions column.

How to prepare for a date

If you want to learn more on how to use the insert function in PHPMyAdmin, please visit the MySQL Insert and PHPMyAdmin articles.

Setting a date in MySQL using a PHP script

Using a PHP script for setting a date in MySQL is very common. To use this method, run an SQL query in a PHP script. This method is used every day by some very simple PHP scripts and by large modern PHP-based applications. Let’s take a look at how it looks like:

An example of a PHP script which sets a date in MySQL manually

Also, there is an option to set the date automatically:

An example of a PHP script which sets a date in MySQL manually

As you can assume, you can use not only DATE, but also YEAR and DATETIME statements in PHP – the syntax is similar.

You have two options for putting a date on a document in Microsoft Word. The first method puts a static date in the document; that is, the date does not change when the day changes. The second method makes the date dynamic. When you open the document tomorrow, for example, the date displayed will be tomorrow’s date.

    Static date

To add a static date, do either of the following:

    • Within the document, type the date you want displayed.
    • Alternatively, follow the appropriate procedure for your version of Word:
      • Word for Windows (2010 and 2007): Click the Insert tab. In the “Text” area, select Date & Time . Uncheck Update automatically if it is checked, and then click OK . The date will be inserted into your document at the location of the cursor.
      • Word for Mac (2011 and 2008): From the Insert menu, select Date and Time. . In the Date and Time dialog box, select the format you want, uncheck Update automatically if it is checked, and then click OK . The date will be inserted into your document at the location of the cursor.

    Dynamic date

Word for Windows (2010 and 2007)

    1. Click the Insert tab. In the “Text” area, select Date & Time .
    2. Choose the format you want.
    3. Select Update automatically if it is not already selected. This will set the date to change each day. Click OK .

Word for Mac (2011 and 2008)

    1. From the Insert menu, select Date and Time. .
    2. In the Date and Time dialog box, choose the format you want.
    3. At the bottom of the box, select Update automatically if it is not already selected. This will set the date to change each day. Click OK .

Inserting a date in a header

Word for Windows (2010 and 2007)

    1. Click the Insert tab.
    2. In the toolbar, click the Header icon, and choose your header type.
    3. Click the Insert tab.
    4. Click Date and Time , choose your Date and Time style, and then click OK .

Word for Mac (2011 and 2008)

    1. From the View menu, select Header and Footer .
    2. The Header and Footer toolbar will appear, and the headers and footers on the page will be outlined with dotted lines. Place the cursor inside the header or footer where you would like to place the date (you may want to align it using the paragraph formatting options).
    3. Either click the Insert Date button on the Header and Footer toolbar (it has a number 7 on it), or, from the Insert menu, select Date and Time. to open the Date and Time dialog box (this method gives you Date and Time style choices).

After you have inserted the date, you may change it just as you would any other text on the page.

  • I am looking for a simple way to update a simple calculation each month to pull the current month into an addition calculation.

    ex:
    J F M A M J J A S O N D (months in the year)

At the end of march I want to add March data to a YTD calculation which already pulls Jan and Feb data.

So instead of doing this manually several times, I would like to put one formula in the YTD column which will be a function of Now().

It seems as though there has to be a way to do this b’c it is such a simple concept.

  • If your YTD column is column A, and your month headings are in B1:M1, then :-

    – make sure the dates in the headings are all the last day of each month (can be formatted as mmm)

    – put this formula in A2 and fill down
    =SUMIF(B$1:M$1,”

  • This did work. However, after thinking about it. I actually want to be able to type in a month or its corresponding month no. and make the formula a function of that.

I am reporting at the end of a month info for the prior month YTD. So, in May I want the formula to pull all info for Jan – April. I also need to save documents for each month and would not want to use now() or today() because it will be updated all monthly reports for each new month.

Let me know if you have anymore thoughts.

  • You could have your macro for generating the report cut and paste the data from the month you specify to a ‘current’ tab. Then have your report tab lookup its values from only the ‘current’ tab.

  • I would like to have similar formula, but instead months in cells B1:M1 I want to have weeks from 1 to 53. The name of the heading cells will be week 1, week 2. Please advise.

And also with having this formual I would like to have my graphs automatically updated. As I wrote above data are entered on weekly basis. I want my graphs show always only YTD column and actual week column. For example: When I am in week 23 and want to add data for week 22, I wnat YTD to be autoamtically updated and also data in graphs to be changed from week 21 to week 22.

Managing Your Documents. and Your Time

How to prepare for a date

Keep your files at your fingertips!

Have you ever kept someone waiting while you searched the piles of papers on your desk for an important document? Or struggled to meet a deadline because you’ve lost a vital computer file?

Whether you work with paper documents, electronic files, or a mixture of both, it’s vital to keep them organized and accessible. That way you can save time looking for things, and always have the right information to hand when you need it.

    Managing Information

When you receive a document from a co-worker, vendor, or customer, it’s tempting to “just put it away” in a pile on your desk or drawer, or to keep it in your email inbox or downloads folder. “Hmm. Looks interesting, but I’ll take a closer look at this later, when I’ve got more time.” Sound familiar?

After a while, many such documents build up, leading to clutter. And it becomes less and less likely that you’ll ever find time to go back and get all of that information organized.

Meanwhile, you can spend lots of precious time searching for documents that have got lost in all the mess.

So why not take a different approach, to ensure that you’re always confident of finding things when you need them?

    Effective File Management

Here are seven ways to manage your documents and files efficiently and effectively:

    1. Avoid saving unnecessary documents.

Don’t make a habit of saving everything that finds its way to you. Take a few seconds to glance through the content, and keep a file only if it’s relevant to your work activity, or required by your business. Having too many unnecessary documents adds to clutter and makes it harder to find things in the future.

    2. Follow a consistent method for naming your files and folders.

For instance, divide a main folder into subfolders for customers, vendors, and co-workers. Use shortened names to identify what or who the folders relate to. You can even use color coding to make it easier to identify different categories of folders.

    3. Store related documents together, whatever their type.

For example, store reports, letters, presentation notes, spreadsheets, and graphics related to a particular project in a single folder – rather than having one folder for presentations for all projects, another folder for spreadsheets for all projects, and so on. That way, you’ll be much faster finding documents for a particular project.

    4. Separate ongoing work from completed work.

Some people prefer to keep current or ongoing work on their desk or computer desktop until a job is completed. Then, once it’s done, they move it to the appropriate location, where files of the same category are stored. At periodic intervals (for example, weekly or every two weeks), move files you’re no longer working on to the folders where your completed work is stored.

How can I set a DateTimePicker control to a specific date (yesterday’s date) in C# .NET 2.0?

    9 Answers 9

Just need to set the value property in a convenient place (such as InitializeComponent() ):

If you want to set a date, DateTimePicker.Value is a DateTime object.

This is the constructor of DateTime:

    My Visual is 2012

How to prepare for a date

You can set the “value” property

Can’t figure out why, but in some circumstances if you have bound DataTimePicker and BindingSource contol is postioned to a new record, setting to Value property doesn’t affect to bound field, so when you try to commit changes via EndEdit() method of BindingSource, you receive Null value doesn’t allowed error. I managed this problem setting direct DataRow field.

    This oughta do it.

    Use the Value property.

DateTime.Today holds today’s date, from which you can subtract 1 day (add -1 days) to become yesterday.

DateTime. Now , on the other hand, contains time information as well. DateTime.Now.AddDays(-1) will return this time one day ago.

Also, we can assign the Value to the Control in Designer Class (i.e. FormName.Designer.cs).

This way you always get Current Date.

FYI: If you are setting the value, and not seeing anything – you might check to see if you have a ‘CustomFormat’ set – I just hit this and it was set to ‘ ‘ for the 1/1/1900 value (our ‘not set’ value) and set to MM/dd/yyyy if not.

    Plus 5 Easy Recipes

    How to Make a Smoothie

How to prepare for a date

Making smoothies is hardly rocket science and there are plenty of recipes out there, but here are some tips for creating your own smoothie. We also have 5 smoothie recipes to get you started!

    Ingredients

    • 2 to 2 1/2 cups cubed soft fruit, fresh or frozen, or a combination
    • 1 cup of liquid, usually juice or milk
    • 1/2 cup of yogurt (optional)
    • 1/2 cup to 1 cup ice (unless you are using all frozen fruit)
    • a teaspoon or two of sugar, honey, agave or another sweetener (optional)

    How to Make It

    1. Put the ingredients in a blender and whir it up!
    2. This will make two large smoothies.

Unlike baking recipes, for instance, smoothie recipes do not have to use exact measurements. You can adjust according to taste. The only difference in choosing between fresh or frozen fruit is how thick you want it to be. Frozen will make for a more milkshake-thick smoothie, whereas fresh will get thickened up slightly by the ice, but have a more liquidy texture. Or you can combine frozen and fresh fruit.

You can use any kind of soft fruit you want, such as berries, bananas, peeled peaches or nectarines, melons, even grapes, and puree, and know you can always add a bit more fruit or ice to thicken it or a bit more milk to thin it out.

So, you’ve decided to move on. You’ve signed on the dotted line at your new gig, and now all that’s standing in between you and your fab new job is submitting your resignation letter to your current one. Gulp.

While this isn’t the first step of quitting your job (that would be sitting down with your boss to give two weeks’ notice—read more on having that “I quit” conversation), it’s an important one. The official document you submit to your higher-ups and HR will set the tone for the rest of your time at this job—as well as your relationship moving forward. So it’s worth spending a little time making this two weeks’ notice letter solid and polished.

To help you out, here’s a step-by-step resignation letter template to use.

Part 1 The Basics of a Resignation Letter

There’s no need to sugarcoat or get creative in the beginning; just state the position you’re resigning from and the effective date. While you probably shared with your boss your reasons for leaving, you don’t need to describe them here—keeping it simple is perfectly fine. (No need to, um, create an “I quit” video.)

    Dear [Your Boss’ Name],

Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am resigning from my position as [position title] with [Company Name]. My last day will be [your last day—usually two weeks from the date you give notice].

    Part 2 The Thank You

Next, it’s always a good idea to thank your employer for the opportunity, describing some of the key things you’ve enjoyed and learned on the job. And yes, this is true even if you’re thrilled to be leaving. Remember—you may need these people for a reference down the line, and leaving things on a good note will leave a lasting (positive) impression.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to work in this position for the past [amount of time you’ve been in the role]. I’ve greatly enjoyed and appreciated the opportunities I’ve had to [a few of your favorite job responsibilities], and I’ve learned [a few specific things you’ve learned on the job], all of which I will take with me throughout my career.

    Part 3 The Hand-off

Finally, state your willingness to help out with the transition. You don’t need to go into great detail (and definitely don’t promise anything you can’t deliver), but a couple of lines stating that you’ll ensure a smooth wrap-up of your duties will show that you’re in the game until the very end.

During my last two weeks, I’ll do everything possible to wrap up my duties and train other team members. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to aid during the transition.

I wish the company continued success, and I hope to stay in touch in the future.

    Part 4 Example Resignation Letters

Want to put this all together and see what it looks like in practice? We’ve written a couple letter of resignation samples for you to work off of.

    Example #1

    Dear Mr. Don Cohen,

Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am resigning from my position as Account Executive with Marketing Media. My last day will be Thursday, March 2.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to work in this position for the past six years. I’ve greatly enjoyed and appreciated the opportunities I’ve had to grow our sales team and pipeline, be a part of creating a great product, and work with my fellow colleagues, and I’ve learned so much about marketing strategy and the digital media space, which I will certainly take with me throughout my career.

I’ll do everything possible to wrap up my duties and train other team members over the next two weeks. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help during this transition.

I wish the company continued success, and I hope to stay in touch in the future.

    Example #2

    Dear Ms. Fran Braden,

I’m writing to give my formal notice that I’ll be leaving my role as Office Manager for Larry and Keets Financial Partners on July 31.

I’ve recently received an offer to serve as an executive assistant at a small startup, and after careful consideration I’m excited to explore this new path in my career journey.

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve been provided working on the Operations team for the past four years. It’s been a wonderful experience to work for such a great company and help in solving Larry and Keets’ mission to provide better financial support for older employees.

Please let me know if I can be of any assistance during this transition. Thank you for all your guidance. I wish you all the best, and look forward to keeping in touch.

Obviously, feel free to adjust this a bit based on your experience and your company culture, then submit it via the typical procedures at your company.

Sure, it may sit in the depths of HR until the end of time, but you can be sure of two things: One, your former boss (and future reference) will read it and be impressed. And two, if you ever decide to come back to your company (hey, it happens), it’s a very good thing that last thing on file is a great, professionally written letter of resignation.
