  1. Connect your device to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.
  2. Find the video that you want to stream.
  3. Tap AirPlay . In some apps, you might need to tap a different icon first.* In the Photos app, tap Share , then tap AirPlay .
  4. Choose your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.

To stop streaming, tap AirPlay in the app that you’re streaming from, then tap your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from the list.

*Some video apps might not support AirPlay. If you can’t use AirPlay with a video app, check the App Store on your Apple TV to see if that app is available.

If video automatically streams to an AirPlay device

Your device might automatically stream video to the Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV that you frequently use. If you open a video app and see in the upper-left corner, then an AirPlay device is already selected.

  • Check the Wi-Fi connection: Make sure both devices are connected and that they’re on the same network. If you use Wi-Fi extenders or a dual-band router, you may have multiple Wi-Fi networks in your house.
  • Reboot the iPad and TV: If everything checks out, but the AirPlay button doesn’t appear, reboot both devices one at a time. First, restart Apple TV and wait several seconds for it to establish an internet connection, then check to see if AirPlay is working. If not, reboot your iPad and try again after the iPad powers back on.
  • Contact support: If you still cannot get it to work, contact Apple Support.

LG TVs are equipped with innovative features that make it easy to share screen and display content between your external devices like your PC, tablet, smartphone and more. There are multiple ways to connect and they all depend on your network connectivity and the type of device you wish to share.

In the case you are using a Mac device to share your information, AirPlay will only allow you to stream to a Mac device, however LG supports AirPlay 2 in its 2019 models.

Note: AirPlay is only supported from Mac device to Mac device.

You can share screen directly from an iPhone to an Apple TV using Airplay. Airplay is the official screen sharing technology from Apple.

How to stream:

Connect your iOS device and Apple TV or AirPort Express to the same Wi-Fi network.

On your iOS device, swipe up from the bottom of your screen to access Control Center.

Tap the name of the device you want to stream content to. You’ll see icons of a TV screen or speaker next to each device so you know what type of content you can stream. On iPad, you might need to scroll to see all of the available devices in the device list.

When you use AirPlay Mirroring, your TV uses the orientation and aspect ratio of your device. If you want the image from your device to fill your TV screen, you might need to to adjust your TV’s aspect ratio or zoom settings.

To share your screen from a Mac computer, you need to ensure computer and the TV supports AirPlay 2.

Click on the AirPlay icon on the right side of your Mac’s menu bar.

Click on Apple TV from the drop down. (If you have multiple Apple TV’s in the vicinity, choose the one you want to use right now.)

Click on Mirror Built-In Display to mirror your Mac’s native resolution on your TV.

Click on Mirror Apple TV to resize your Mac’s resolution to match the resolution of your TV.

Click on Use as Separate Display to have your Mac extend your desktop and treat your TV as an additional display.

To turn off AirPlay, click on the AirPlay icon on the right side of your Mac’s menu bar and select Turn AirPlay Off.

Alternatives:

LG do not make a dedicated Mac application that supports Smart Share.

In the case you don’t have a 2019 LG TV, an alternative to screen share is using Plex Media Server.

AirPlay–a technology built into the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch–brings wireless media streaming from your iOS device to your home theater. Although it has limitations, it’s one of the most seamless ways to get your favorite YouTube videos, music, and home videos onto the big screen.

An Apple TV. At $99, this is the most inexpensive way to use AirPlay. Other options include AirPlay-enabled speakers, Apple AirPort, and some receivers .

An iOS device running iOS 4.2 or above. To check your software, go to Settings > About on your device and look at the number next to Version.

A solid wireless network. This is important, as media from your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch will be streamed to your TV over your home network. Ensure that you’ve optimized your wireless network before streaming content.

If you meet the requirements, streaming is easy.

Set up AirPlay: Set up the Apple TV, connect to your wireless network, and verify that AirPlay is turned on (Settings > AirPlay on your Apple TV). Then connect your iDevice to the same wireless network as the Apple TV.

Stream videos: To stream movies, launch a video (including YouTube) and hit play. You’ll notice an AirPlay icon show up. Click it, select “Apple TV,” and your video will begin streaming.

Stream music and photos: To stream music, launch a song or playlist, tap the AirPlay button, and select “Apple TV.” For photos, open the Photos app, tap a photo, and hit the AirPlay button. Then select “Apple TV” and swipe through your album.

AirPlay-compatible apps: Developers have begun integrating AirPlay with their apps. While the list is short, it includes some great apps like TED, iMovie, AirVideo, Vevo, and IMDb. To see more compatible apps, check out the slideshow (below).
