I have always enjoyed treating myself. Just last week I promised myself a fancy coffee with full-fat milk from The Mill at this fabulous studio called Salt in San Francisco if I worked out five days in a row. Although I was incredibly sore, I did it, and I thoroughly enjoyed the $4 cappuccino in a hip atmosphere afterward. While it’s great when friends, family members, and significant others treat you to something unexpected for a special occasion like your birthday, what about the other 364 days of the year? Make a DIY Hair Mask
Try making a DIY hair mask using ingredients you already have at home:
- Olive oil and honey
- Olive oil and avocado
- Milk and honey
- Coconut oil
My hair is something I think way too much about, so I’m a regular hair mask user. But, if you hair is more of an afterthought, you may find a hair mask to be even more luxurious.
I usually apply a mask to dry hair, but if you need a little more slip, apply to damp hair. After about 15 minutes, rinse it out and wash your hair like normal. If you have trouble getting the oil out, just shampoo twice.
Trim Your Nails
Whether you give yourself a full-on mani-pedi or you just do a little nail trimming, I find keeping my nails tidy makes me feel good. When my nails are out of whack, I feel out of whack. My nails grow in a little wobbly, so if they get long without a gel manicure keeping them well-shaped, they start to look and feel a little crazy.
If you’re going for an at-home manicure, go all-out with a nice nail soak (warm, soapy water will do the trick). If you’re doing the basics, trim and file your nails and either push back or trim your cuticles. Don’t forget to finish it off with a little nail oil (olive oil works great!) to truly pamper yourself.
Exfoliate Your Body
When is the last time you exfoliated your arms and legs? I have keratosis pilaris on my arms, so I regularly keep things smooth with DERMAdoctor KP Duty Body Scrub . For my legs though, I use Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub which is only $6! I bought it when I started epilating. You can even make a DIY body scrub using ingredients you already have around the house:
- Coffee grounds and coconut oil
- Brown sugar and olive oil
- Sea salt and olive oil
You can exfoliate dry or damp skin. Afterward, rinse off, pat your skin dry, and don’t forget to apply lotion or body butter.
Apply a Face Mask
I would bet most women have a face mask already hiding in their bathroom cabinet. You know, that face mask you bought and used once. If not, single-use sheet masks at Target are about $1-4. Or, you can create a DIY face mask at home.
- Avocado, yogurt, and honey
- Raw egg, pumpkin puree, honey
After masking, be sure to moisturize. I like to finish a facial with a little oil such as the Honest Beauty Facial Oil , too. If you don’t own a face oil, try some coconut oil .
Take Care of Your Feet
I’m pretty good at taking care of myself, but my feet are something I often neglect. Pedicure or no pedicure, you should exfoliate and moisturize your feet. If you have a buffing block, give them a good scrub down, focusing on rough spots. If not, try one of the at-home body scrub recipes above. Then, apply a generous amount of lotion, and stick your feet in a pair of comfy socks to allow your skin to absorb the moisture.
Calm Your Mind
You’ve pampered yourself, but don’t forget to pamper your mind. Try a few of these ideas, or leave your ideas in the comments:
- Read in bed with the lights off except for your bedside lamp.
- Take a bath by candlelight.
- Write a letter.

So, although frequent trips to the nail salon may not fall into your financial plan, having manicured nails isn’t quite a thing of the past. Why it’s important to pamper yourself as you improve your finances
Pampering is usually just thought of as something that’s reserved for special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, or Mother’s Day. This shouldn’t be the case and, more importantly, it doesn’t have to be. Pampering yourself is a form of self-care that is necessary for mental and physical health. One of the greatest benefits of self-care is that it reduces stress.
Because money can be stressful, having a way to relieve those emotions while you work on your financial goals is incredibly important. Give your muscles some attention with a hand massager or on your own. Small things like giving yourself a hand and foot massages can go a long way in helping you relax. You can also find handheld body massagers for as low as $20. The great thing about this purchase is that it can be used over and over again for future pamper sessions.
2. Take a bubble bath
We live in such a fast-paced society that taking time out for a long, relaxing bath can be difficult. Make the time to soak for a while. Bubble baths are an inexpensive way to give yourself some quality time and care. Bath bombs and oils are also great, natural options to help you relax.
3. Give yourself a manicure and pedicure
Save a few dollars by giving yourself a manicure and pedicure. You only need a few tools to get the job done. So grab your nail clippers, a nail file, and polish and have yourself a paint party! 4. Buy yourself flowers
You don’t have to wait for someone else to buy you flowers. Buying fresh flowers is one of my favorite forms of pampering. A $20 bouquet of roses will not only lift your spirits, but it’ll give your space a chic vibe. So the next time you go to the grocery store, pick up a bouquet for yourself. Don’t forget to budget for it ahead of time.
5. Give yourself a facial
Facials can be expensive, so doing it yourself can make them budget-friendly. You can create your own DIY facial scrub with a few items in your kitchen. You’d be surprised by which food items make for a great exfoliant.
6. Cozy up to a book and tea
Reading a great book is always relaxing. Couple that with some nice, warm tea and you’ll be in for a calming night. You can grab a book on Kindle or for free from your local library. Sites like Hoopla offer free digital books and audiobooks with your local library account.
7. Sleep in
Sleeping in may not seem like a form of pampering, but it is. It is just as much a form of self-care and pampering as a massage. The great thing is that it’s completely free. Picnics are always a fun, inexpensive way to pamper yourself. It allows you to get some much needed Vitamin D and fresh air. Make yourself a sandwich and pack a blanket, some snacks and drinks, and head to your local park. You can soak under the sun with a good book or some music.

1. Take a sensuous bath: This tops the list without any doubt. Pour a few drops of your favourite essential oil in your bath water, throw in a few rose petals, dab on a good hair mask and face mask and relax for a good 10 – 15 mins. Complete it with a good exfoliation of your body.
2. Hop into a cute attire: Wear your favorite pajamas or your fluffy robe, pop those furry bunny slippers, anything that will make you feel all warm and fuzzy.
3. Light up some candles: There’s nothing more great than candles to lift up the mood of your surroundings. Light candles in various shapes, colours, sizes and fragrances in different corners of your bedroom. Vanilla, chocolate, green apple, cinnamon – you name it, they have it.
4. Feed your skin: Take time to apply some good body oils or creams to your body, paying attention to every part of your body separately. Examine how your feet look, how your knees look. You are not in a hurry!
5. Drink soothing tea or hot cocoa (depending on your mood!): Grab that favourite mug of yours, put in some hot water and steep 1 or 2 bags of your favourite tea. Chamomile is one of the most soothing and calming tea available in the market. You can choose from lemon, lavender, caramel, mint or just about anything that pleases YOU. Or whip up a cup of hot chocolate topped off with some cream.
6. Read something: Stay away from your mobile: Say no to WhatsApp, facebook and twitter. Instead grab a book that you always wanted to read. Drown in it completely.
7. Write in your journal: Our busy schedules make it impossible for us to keep a diary for our everyday happenings. This pampering time is a good way to write about the week that just came to an end and reflect on yourself.

We’ve all been there. You’ve had a hard, busy week and you need some pampering and ‘me’ time. But the thing is, you can’t afford to go to a spa or have the services performed by a professional. As much as I wish I could afford my own private masseuse or nail technician, I’ve had to learn how to pamper myself at home. Today, I thought I’d share 5 ways to pamper yourself at home.
5 Ways to Pamper Yourself at Home
Soak Your Feet
I have a small bin that I use just for my feet. I fill it with warm water, a little lavender and sit until the water gets cold. Then, I scrub off the dead skin and paint my toes. Another trick is to find a tennis ball, put it on the floor and move your foot around on it. It’s like a little foot rub!
Take a Bath
Light some candles, throw in a bath bomb, pour a glass of wine, put on some music, and soak in the tub. Put your phone as far away as possible and focus on relaxing.
Turn Off the Alarm Clock
For me, I feel pampered when I allow myself to sleep in. My favorite Friday nights are when I change my sheets, crawl into bed and sleep 8+ hours.
Put on a Face Mask
You can get a face mask from anywhere or make one at home with nature-inspired ingredients. Leave on for 15 minutes, close your eyes and give your skin a break.
Wash Your Hair

I talk a lot about the importance of self-care here, and I would be lying if I said I was succeeding in prioritizing it right now amongst all the craziness. Make your own DIY Hair Spa Mask
1. Olive Oil + Steam Towel
This is as simple as it gets. Work olive oil into the strands of your hair, you can choose to focus on your ends or work it into your scalp as well. Leave it on for about 15 minutes.
Get a towel that was soaked in warm water, wring it of all the excess water, and wrap your hair in the towel. The warmth from the towel acts as a steamer. Leave it on for another 10 minutes or so and then wash with a mild shampoo.
2. Avocado Honey Conditioning Mask
We love this one! It leaves your hair with an added boost of shine and it just feels so nourished.
Combine two avocados with a big tablespoon of honey. Based on the size of your avocado (because we know that fluctuates), you’ll need to estimate the amount of honey to put in. You want to create a paste-like consistency, so it needs to be thick.
Apply the paste from your hair scalp to your ends and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Wash off with a mild shampoo and enjoy!
3. Egg Wash Your Hair
Eggs are a great source of protein and our hair strands are made from keratin protein. That’s what gives it strength.
For this little egg wash, mix in one egg with coconut oil. I usually put in a bit more coconut oil because I prefer the consistency that way.
Apply the mask to your hair, wrap it in a warm towel and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Wash off with a mild shampoo.
Rule of thumb: to get that egg smell out of your hair, wash with cold water.
4. Bananas For Healthy Hair
Notice how our DIY masks use only natural products? Amazing right!
Here’s another one. Take a ripe banana, chop it up and add a small bowl of olive oil and one egg white. Put it in a blender.
Apply the mask onto your hair for 20 minutes and wash. Bananas are a great source of potassium which helps to soften your hair and prevents split ends by protecting the hair’s elasticity.
5. Milk and Honey Good Enough to Eat
You may have heard of this one – tried and test through the years. Add a tablespoon of honey into a glass of raw milk and apply this all over your hair, from roots to ends.
Leave it on for 20 minutes and wash. You’ll notice your hair feeling a lot softer and shinier!

Okay, so I’m thrilled to announce that my sister has written another amazing guest post for A Woman’s Confidence and this post is particularly relevant in the current COVID-19 climate.
As the UK is in lockdown, we’re all spending a lot more time at home and our face-to-face social interactions have decreased drastically. A lot of people are finding this challenging and some people can feel overwhelmed with the sudden amount of free time they have on their hands now.
However, adjusting to these new circumstances doesn’t have to be horrible and you can use the extra time to take care of yourself and look and feel amazing. Here, my sister shares 5 really simple but effective at-home pamper ideas for some well-deserved ‘me-time’.
Anyone can do these ideas so set some time aside tonight to pamper and feel great.
Obviously, with the current coronavirus situation, we are all trying to stay at home as much as possible. Although this is what needs to be done, we shouldn’t neglect our own mental health and well-being, which often take a hit when we feel a bit cooped up.
That’s why now, arguably more than ever, is the perfect time to take time out of every day to do things that not only feel good but are also productive in some way too.
1. Hair masks
I absolutely love it when I have time to do a full hair mask. Hair masks come in many varieties, but the goal is to nourish your hair and make it super healthy.
I personally love the Garnier 3-in-1 Hair Mask as it’s really hydrating, adds volume and just smells amazing. I put the mask on the ends of my hair and gently pull it through the hair. Then, I put it up in a towel to keep the heat in, leave it for 40 minutes and then wash. During the 40 minutes, I’ll do something else relaxing and pampering, like drinking a herbal tea while watching Netflix.
2. Experimenting with your nails
With extra time at home, it’s the perfect time to take those extra few minutes doing something special for yourself. Whether you do gel nails or use regular polish, try to find some inspiration to do a unique manicure. I love searching through Pinterest for some really cute and simple styles to try at home. Try searching for ‘marble nail effect’ and give it a try!
3. An at-home facial
If you’re missing being able to go out for a pamper, you can do your best to recreate it at home, either alone or whoever is at home with you.
My favourite part of a facial is the hot towel treatment, where a warm towel is placed over your face helping to open pores and moisturise. These can be easily replicated at home.
The best way to achieve it is to run a towel under water, place it in a microwavable dish and heat for 30 seconds. You can also add a few drops of essential oils to really make the most of it, like lavender oil for calming the skin.
4. Homemade face masks
Again, as you might be trying to avoid going out, trying a homemade face mask might be the perfect solution if you have ran out of your usual favourite. The great thing with these is that you can add a lot of what is already laying around in your cupboards.
You can find some recipes here or can find many online if you just search what results you want, for example ‘homemade exfoliating face mask’.
Tip: Honey is a great ingredient to add as it is naturally antibacterial which helps fight acne and it is also packed with antioxidants to help slow down signs of ageing.
5. Scrub treatments
Much like with the point above, lip and body scrubs can easily be made at home and give you that spa feel. I like to use brown sugar for my lip scrubs as it is a great exfoliator and it is also delicious! After using a scrub, I’d definitely recommend adding lip balm and a heavy body moisturiser so that you lock in hydration to the fresh skin: making it glow as well as nourishing it.

TRY ALL THE SHEET MASKS. So I’ve been a BIG mask kick lately, even more so than usual. I think it’s this winter weather. PAMPER YOUR LIPS. I dunno about you guys, but I always forget about my lips. Lately I feel like every time I put on my lip balm it’s to no avail. My lips are still crusty and cracked despite the fact I feel like I’m moisturizing them 500+ times a day.
Needless to say my pout could use some extra TLC, which is why I came up with a quick and easy winter lipcare routine. Twice a week after steaming my face I exfoliate my lips with this Burt’s Bees conditioning lip scrub. I just apply it with my fingers and gently scrub away any flaky pieces. I’ve tried a bunch of lip scrubs over the years, but I LOVE this one because it’s 100% natural and the crystals aren’t too chunky. On days when I reallyyyyy wanna take my lip routine up a notch, I’ll use a lip mask. YES lip masks exist! Who knew, right? Let’s talk about the mist first. This is a life saver for parched skin, especially on days when I’m wearing makeup! Dull, dry skin magnifies fine lines, so spritz whenever skin feels tight. In a spray bottle, combine;
1 cup witch hazel,
1/4 cup rosewater and
3 drops chamomile essential oil
I love to store this in my vanity bag for a fragrant quick-fix on the go. This blend will keep indefiitely.
Steam your face
Boil 4 cups of water, then pour into a heat resistant bowl and 3-4 drops of any calming essential oils such as rose or ylang-ylang. Create a steam tent with a towel and let the steam envelop your face for 10 minutes. After you are done, set yourself up for a restful slumber. Beat bad hair
After shampooing, quickly rinse with a 50-50 mixture of warm water and apple cider vinegar. It reduces frizz and also removes dirt, mineral deposits and soapy residue.

The other day, I gave a presentation at school (I’m working on my Master’s of Social Work at UBC in Vancouver). The professor raked me over the coals. I unintentionally provided him with two “teachable moments” that he used to educate the other students about the importance of high-quality research and precise terminology in social work. That was three days ago, and I’m still cringing embarrassment. It stings!
But it feels good to talk about it, and to admit that I didn’t prepare as well as I should have for the presentation. I gave a 70% effort – definitely not graduate level preparation. I rushed through my research, and didn’t check my facts properly. I screwed up.
And that, my friends, is one way to pamper yourself after a bad day at work: accept responsibility for what you didn’t do well, and make a mental note to do it differently next time. This tip may not seem like pampering yourself, but once you own up to your mistake, then you’re in a better frame of mind to be kind to yourself. You can’t truly be good to yourself unless you’re honest with yourself.

Bow your head and bend your knee to your Creator. I don’t know how spiritual or God-centered you are, but I’ve tasted the depth of love, compassion, acceptance, and freedom that Jesus Christ brings. I feel loved no matter how bad I mess up, and I am accepted no matter how lazy or unprepared I was at school. There’s something liberating about God – and He is my first choice when I think of ways to pamper myself after a hard day.
Book a weekend away. Travel is my favorite way to escape and pamper myself after a tough time. When was the last time you went away for the weekend? Bury your face in your pet. I have two dogs – Georgie and Tiffy – and my favorite thing when I’m upset, sad, or scared is to bury my face in their necks. Tiffy is especially cuddly and sweet, and could spend hours in my arms. Do you have a cat or dog, and do you spend time just leaning on them?
Light a candle, and sit in silence or soft music for 10 minutes. One of the best ways to pamper yourself at home after a bad day at work is to connect with your spirit. Listen to your heart, thoughts, mind, and soul. What does your body need? What are you scared of? What do you hope for? Pray, meditate, connect with yourself. I should stress (pun intended) that I’m working from home, with two sick kids and a segment taping coming up tomorrow morning! Oh, and the magical 4-day, family-and-friends weekend the hubby and I planned never happened … because someone, then two someones had near 103 fevers. Yup, that’s #momlife #circuslife.
But, today is National Relaxation Day and I am going to take a nap, just as soon as this post goes live. Praying it’s 3:30pm.
Cue silk mask over eyes.

Cue grandma coming in to save the day.
(UPDATE: this post went live at 5:45pm because my daughter refused to get out of bed with my mom. Then, my mom decided to tell me about it, at which point my daughter realized I was home … #MadatMyMom … #FeelingGuiltyAboutThatEmotion. Nap time might happen 6-7pm)

Having group phone calls, FaceTime sessions, or Zoom video calls with your favorite people is also a great way to socialize with multiple people at once.
2. Have A Warm Cup Of Tea
Starting or ending your day with a warm cup of tea is an excellent way to start or end your day on the right foot. A warm drink is much more comforting than something served cold or with ice. You will be able to relax when it is almost time for bed, or you will feel more energetic because you had a warm drink in the morning.
3. Take A Bath
If you have time to take a bath, you can relax in the bath for as long as you want. A bath is a good time to enjoy some peace and quiet. 5. Buy Yourself Something Special
Treating yourself to something special just for you is a great way to take time for yourself and put your interests first. You may like a particular brand of dark chocolate, or you may want to buy chips that are just for you. Some people will buy a special bottle of wine that they want to drink at the end of the day, or you can get a special Irish liqueur that you will add to your coffee in the morning. This treat is just for you, and it will brighten your day.
You should set aside some time to read every day. You do not need to read a whole book every few days, but you should spend some time reading about something other than work, the news, and social media. You can read your favorite book again, or you can read a book by an author that you really like.
You may want to take book recommendations from your friends, and you could even read books together on a video call. If you and your partner like to read, you can read together in bed. Taking some time to read is good for your brain and soul.
7. Watch Your Favorite Show
You can sit down to watch your favorite show. You do not need to do anything else, and you can zone out while you are watching TV. TV shows might be inspiring, and you may spend some time writing or drawing when the show is over. You should feel free to be as creative as possible, and you can use your TV shows as a springboard for all your pent up creativity.
8. Dress Up For No Reason
While many of us are working from home, we’re probably not going through our usual morning routines of getting dressed up and doing our hair and makeup. Instead, we’re rolling out of bed still in pajamas and tackling our work tasks as-is. Taking the time to dress up, whether for work or for no reason at all, is a great way to take time for yourself and to feel confident. Not only will dressing up make you feel better, but you can also make it an even better experience by playing your favorite music during your routine and trying out new looks that you wouldn’t feel comfortable trying on a normal day.
9. Get A Massage
Self-massage is a great way to relax your muscles and mind. Or, you and your partner can give each other massages for a romantic night in. This is a good way to relax, and it might be something you do instead of a bath. Some people do not want to sit in a bathtub for a long period of time, but a massage will make you feel just as relaxed.

You can host date night at home by making a nice dinner, having a glass of wine, and watching a movie with popcorn. This is a simple way to to stay connected with your partner without going out, and it is better than simply going to bed every night after watching TV.
